I got tired of posting Worthwhile news in the Worthless News thread.
So here's my solution

Today I got a manila envelope from the United States Naval Academy. This envelope contained a folder. In this folder were many pieces of paper, one of which a letter stating that I was one of 1800 students picked from many thousands of applicants to attend the USNA's Summer Seminar. This opportunity gets me all that much closer to realizing my dream of attending the Academy starting next year in June.

------------------
Usually, I try to take one day at a time, but lately, several days have attacked me all at once.

Good for you.
Just tell it didn't all start with "Ron" calling from "The Navy" and asking for you Social Insurance Number...
Congrats, though.

Neo, may I asked what exactly is about the Navy that appeal to you?

I was very close to joining the Navy right after high school, but my parents and friends talked me out of it (go to college first, then join the military). I was even closer to joining the Air Force during my juniour year in college, but there were some mishaps and I end up convincing myself to finish college first. Now, I don't know, I still sorta wonder what my life would be like right now if I had taken those paths instead. Ah well, I am stuck in the civilian world now.

Just curious to know what your reasons for leaning toward that way. Guns & tanks? Patriotism? Money? self-satisfaction/worthiness? College tuitions?

Hard to explain the initial reasons, cuz I was really young. Now it's the fact that I get to go to one of the top schools in the nation.....for free Get the free travel, any specific job I get and train for could lead right into a very high-paying job in the civilian world. Patriotism as well.

Call me crazy, but I've never felt that the country or world has owed me anything. I don't feel that I deserve any right to free speech, or impartial trial, or etc etc, but the fact that I'm GIVEN some of these is reason enough to give back a little, rather than bitch and complain that it's not enough and ask for privacy and the right to kill and maim and rape and pillage and whine and such. To secure these rights for the future generations and such, to allow them to whine for privacy and feel violated and get pissed off when they're thrown in jail for raping and pillaging etc, even if I don't like or agree with it all. Like Voltaire said, "I do not agree with what you say, but I shall defend unto my death your right to say it."

Tools can be used for good. This tool will still have a mind too. I'll refuse an order that goes against morals or is unlawful. Simple as that.

YAY NEO! [insert band and confetti... and a little hot dog vender...]

I got a letter yesterday for some Cleveland Technical Society workshop and banquet. Or something like that, I can't remember what the organization's name is. Apparently my school selected me as the top math and/or science student out of a class of ~143.

We have finally finished Bambi's site - in English, French and Chinese. A big thanks to everyone who gave feedback. It was very helpful.

I am now busy bringing my music site under her site as well - I have done the titles starting with A-C....

Banquet? Do you get to bring a guest?

Since you're a math genius, what do you get when you solve for x in y=xx? I don't expect a simple expression. An infinite series or definite integral will do.
