Scores over 100, I think would be about right.

Claim 103

Code:

____OAF          (played above braises; OB, OR FA)
____*RAISES  (MadMaxi got a bingo for this, blank is a B)
SAPIENT   with the T on a treble word (note double P too :) )

sapiient x3, obi, are, fan, it x3

(12+2) x 3 + 2 +3 +6 + 50 bingo = 103

have no idea what OBI means though!

Only the 2nd 100+ word I've ever scored.

I once got to lay down "Popquizes" over a triple word score (actually, it was stretched between two of the triples, iirc). I'm not sure if it's in the official Scrabble dictionary, but it was in the dictionary we'd agreed upon.

I've had FORGIVEN across two doubles. It used some blanks though and I don't belive it actually broke 100.

OK, I suck at Scrabble. My high is maybe somewhere in the 20-30 range.

My game average is somewhere around 250 when playing against one other person.

I would love to play a word like SQUINTER, crossing two unused triple/treble letter scores and using only one on-board letter so I get a bingo.

Q scores 10, all other letters are 1 point and one is doubled on a letter-scoring tile. Thus: 18 x 3 x 3 + 50 = 212.

I wish.

Chienfou, an obi is a Japanese (kimono) sash.

My wife play scrabble almost every evening. The highest one word score we've ever had was a word that covered two triple word scores using all her letters. Total = 158.

I've had over 400 a number of times and regularly score in the mid-300's. Never hit 500.

(We are not strict about dictionary use. We allow each other to look up words before playing them. Adhering to the rules would lower our scores considerably, I'm sure)

PS - anyone who does crossword puzzles knows that an obi is some sort of Japanese sash.

I think using the Scrabble dictionary can make you score more points once you know some of the "non" words.

[brag]
I average about 350 playing one other person, and consider my score/play poor if I dont get to 350. When I first started playing I used to target 250~ then 300 and upwards. I have reached over 500 on the odd occasion, but those are the games where I dont get trays like "aeeeioo" or "iiiiiii" (Which I got for my starting turn once - seven I's) (I did get 600 once due to to the word I talk about below. My mum quit playing me after that Wink
[/brag]

My favourite play of all time was "IMITATE" in a game where I was precisely 57 points behind and no letters left in the bag. Imitate got exactly that, and I had made another 2 letter word as well to take the lead and win...

My highest score was SIZZ[L]ING, which was across two triples. Its untrebled score was 27 and the Z (the one that wasnt the blank Wink ) was placed nicely on the double letter score. (27*9) + 50 = 293. So close to 300...

Dont ask me why but I remember a lot of plays off the top of my head (eg DIVULGED, GAZELLE, SEQUOIA etc)...

The weird thing about me and scrabble? I always play with the board rotated away from me. The text is always upside down. I prefer it that way...

It's funny. I always play scrabble for fun, and never try to maximise my score, becuase IMO the game becomes really dull once people try to play to win.

I played scrabble once for fun with some friends where we were allowed to make up pretty much whatever words we wanted. My friend Nick tried to reference a Carlos Mencia (I think--although I don't know why) joke about Hispanic people who can't pronounce "Corolla" and tells someone to check under the "'arollahood." The thing is, he spelled it "areolahood." We had to explain to him why that was incorrect.

Yep Pablo, Madmaxi and I play a couple of games a week. Over a hundred games she consistently outscores me by two or three hundred points (we're that close) and our combined average total is just in excess of 700. I'd guess we're above average amateur but nowhere close to the professionals.

The winner gets choice of tv station for the evening. isn't it wonderful being OLD Revenge most foul!

Wow! When my wife and I play, I do the same thing...I play "upside down" and I'm completely used to it. In fact, our board is on a swivel, but I don't even bother.

I don't know if this is a similar penchant, but I enjoy trying to read upside down whenever given the opportunity. It's a kick in the cognitive complacency I think.

I tried playing with the board upside-down once, but the tiles kept falling off.

Also, good enough to post twice Revenge most foul!
