I would be more ecologically aware than my neighbours, recycling, composting, about to install geothermal heating, etc. so I'm not surprised that I'm far below the average for my country, Ireland.
Of course they are probably talking about inefficient use of acreage (i.e. organic horticulture) so I'm not that worried.
It does provide a way of comparing our relative footprint though, so I'd be interested in seeing how the rest of you fare. |

| We need to have fewer people. We're probably the only species that would have a greater chance of survival if 99.99% of its members would suddenly die or at least stop reproducing. Any other solution is just treating the symptoms. |

99.99% - Just eliminate anyone with more than the average number of legs. Problem solved.  2 legs is more than 1.99 legs (the average)
I just think that our climate models are not sophisticated enough to accurately predict the consequences of any actions we might take.
We are as likely to make things worse as improve things, if we try anything of consequence.

emissions might satisfy voters, but I can't see it having enough of an impact to make it worthwhile and it would have to be done on a global scale to make it fair.
I do my bit to lessen my use of non-renewable resources from a personal morality standpoint, rather than from fear of global warming. I simply believe it's immoral to waste, whether it's talent or oil. It makes no difference to me.
From a practical point of view, I believe it makes more sense to build a global fund to cope with global warming rather than try to alter it. A global CO
2
tax could fund this kitty and it would be used to provide grants for moving villages inland in the face of rising sea-levels or providing irrigation or desalination for periods of drought etc.
Of course I'm a little biased. I live on a hill about a mile inland and I quite like the idea of having a beach-front property and having warmer Summers here in Ireland would be OK too.  |

I don't have a car and don't use public transportation, and ride as passenger less than once per month, never going far. It really hates my feeding habits. I buy mostly frozen and prepackaged foods, most of which I think are shipped from elsewhere.

I was able to get down to 1 planet by eating vegan, getting all my food unprocessed and locally, living in a 500 square foot or less dwelling with 6 or more other people with no electricity, and getting everywhere by walking or by horseback.

I just tried (using Israel) and got the same options I did for America (except in metric).

That a heinous tax (must resist side discussion...stay on target..). But if you saw the same thing I did (when I chose Israel), it's irrelevant. I was given multiple choice options to describe how much I drive (or ride as a passenger) in a privately owned car. Since zero was an option it wasn't an assumption, it was just good practice. I'm guessing you saw something different than I did.

I saw the question "how much gas does your car consume when driving 100 km" and there was something else about "my car". There was no "I have no car so this is irrelevant" answer.
