Good.
And now, please give a round of applause to Courk, who will announce her shortlisted candidates for the Award of "Best Pro-Town Player", as well as the winner.
(Of course she may not award it to herself. Ahem.)
Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome... Courk.

I forgot we had to kill Amb twice -- can we mention that in the title? I knew we had been on a roll.

(Signup noted. Now give the award).
(Samadhi: three in your popular game already).
(Given the high rate of signups, I am accepting replacements for Samadhi's game at this stage already).

Best pro-town player?
Umm...
I honestly never thought of who was innocent. My first investigation was DP because he had name claimed -- I figured I could confirm (or not) his role. After that I went for Talitha because people were suspicious of her. Then MAG since people were suspicious of him. I think that pretty much exhausted the list of players others were suspicious of, so I investigated Pooky since I can't always tell what his alignment is.
Let's go with...
*drum roll*
AZu -- for staying alive so long as a claimed doctor. |

And now, to the Award of Best Scumbag.
The nominees for this category are:
- Amb, SK with a vengeance,
- Dragon "strong claim fake kill" Phoenix
and
- Macros a.k.a. "D7 kingmaker".
And the winner is....
* drum roll *
Macros.
Congrats to you all, thanks for playing this, and see you in Samadhi's game, do not forget to signup.

I was watching the game after I was killed and I gotta say that you guys are being too hard on Leo. If you look at strict probability by day three ect. you were almost garunteed a mafia hit. part of creating a good mafia game is making sure that the momentum can swing back and forth.
Anyway great game Leo! And I'm /in for Samadhis game! _________________ The Classic Blunders:

awesome, I've never won anything before, however, I feel Taflinel deserves this more, he was sub radar the entire game and picked considerably better kill targets than me. _________________ oh hello |

I agree with this statement. See, had I only put 1 GF + 3 mafs and a SK, well, they wouldn't stand a chance against this powerful town. With one more maf, sure, things got more difficult, but hey, the Town could actually have won, and at any rate should have gone further than Day 7.
There are easier setups, and then there are more difficult ones. But it is the difficult ones, where every townie counts, which inspire us to immerse ourselves in mafia, and grow our skills. Instead of just botching things, killing innocents, and getting away with it.

Wow. This thread has generated more discussion in post-game than I have ever seen. One thing I would like to mention is that the super powerful cop could have fingered a scum without revealing himself. I think a bit too much of the balance fell into the power of this role. Also, the one post role would only have been effective earlier in the game.

It was really nice to try my hand in a mafia game after some time, playing with all these familiar faces. I do think that the town had a tad greater contribution to our win than we did but it surely wasn't an unbalanced game.
Many thanks to my fellow mafia members for some really good playing and to Leo, of course, for running this.

there was talk of a set up to lynch you but i think the DP wagon rolled into town and shot that idea in the foot.

yeah, the idea was to leave you alive then, hey, why the hell isnt azu dead? SCUM!!!!!!
I was considering a doctor claim of Dominique Jean Larrey, the founder of the military ambulance corps, basically the precursor of MASH units. But I hadn't jumped on Azu's doc claim so it wouldn't really have been feasible. _________________ oh hello |

Right, I'll preface this with two things:
1. I haven't really read the game. (Which is good, because I would've been annoyed if I had read the whole thing and then never got to post.)
2. One of my big pet peeves at the moment is postgame whining. I'm not saying it isn't often justified - maybe here, in some cases - but I've seen way too much of this to believe that even most of it is in the ballpark of reality. So... yeah. Constructive criticism = good. Whining = bad. (That's not directed at anyone in particular here - my current annoyance with this mostly stems from this recently completed game on scum.)
Anyway, comments on the setup:
1. Overall, I'd say the EV balance of the setup is ok. 3 Mafia would've been way underpowered (3 Mafia with two or three power roles tends to be pretty standard in 12 player games on scum). Leaving the rest of the setup alone, I'd probably lean toward 5 Mafia with no Godfather, 4 Mafia with a Traitor, or 4 Mafia with a couple more advantages (Roleblocker, for example), but I'm ok with the Mafia group here given the rest of the setup.
2. The main criticism I would have of the setup is that it's so swingy. The outcome of the game depends too much on the night actions. Sure, those are all affected by the day game - the Mafia should be rewarded for picking up cop tells, the Town should be rewarded for the vig making good decisions, etc. - but ultimately you want the outcome of the game to be determined primarily by group decisions, not individual actions.
3. When I'm designing a setup, I tend to ignore the SK when determining the Mafia-Town balance. If anything, the SK is a slight plus for the town (that is, the SK is stealing most of his EV from the Mafia). I've seen too many people use rule of thumb for the ratio of total-number-of-anti-town-players to total-players, and it just doesn't work for multiple factions.
4. See disclaimer 1., but I don't think the town lynched correctly four days in a row. Wasting one lynch on the SK - much less two! - was a mistake. Direct the SK's kill, and force the Mafia to take him out for you. "Let's reduce the number of kills" sounds nice, but it's usually a negative-EV play.
5. Tally's mistake (as she already mentioned) wasn't that she killed N1, but that she failed to kill the next two nights. A vig kill is an extra kill that the town (in this case, a single member) gets to decide on, rather than the Mafia. You'll occasionally get extremes where the vig takes out half the town without hitting a single scum, but on average a vig kill is on par with a lynch, and the vig should kill almost every night (night starts and endgame situations sometimes being exceptions).
Anyway, I enjoyed what I read of the flavor, and maybe one of these days I'll get into a game on here again. I'll leave it at that, need to get going... need to leave in about an hour and I've got stuff to get done here first. |

Vote AZu
You of all people, especially with your two capital letters at the front should know what every two capital abbreviation means.
Oh, wait, the game's over.
Never mind. |
