Is "tyke" - meaning child - a UK colloquialism? (I know it's used here for someone from Yorkshire, but I thought that the baby definition was fairly general.)
(Nothing doing on the final answer here either, but given that I've not heard of quite a few of the main answers, it's possible I might not spot anything.) _________________

Would someone care to explain novice's? I never got beyond the list of lyrics I posted.
I'm useless on anything that is directly musical, and it appears most of the remaining ones are of this type. I may be out for the rest of this round, but I might take another look at Scurra's:
Haunting Notes
0:01 - 0:03 - Black Lace - Agadoo
0:04 - 0:09 - David Bowie - China Girl
0:10 - 0:13 - The Pogues - FairyTale of New York
0:14 - 0:20 - BoyZone - Love Me for a Reason
0:21 - 0:27 - Alvin Stardust - My Coo Ca Choo
0:28 - 0:34 - Beatles - Penny Lane
0:35 - 0:40 - Boney M - Rasputin
0:41 - 0:49 - Rihanna - SOS
0:50 - 0:56 - Coldplay - Speed of Sound
0:57 - 1:04 - Spice Girls - Stop
1:05 - 1:07 - Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams
1:08 - 1:13 - Kinks - Waterloo Sunset
1:14 - 1:18 - Shakin' Stevens - You Drive Me Crazy

Well the question was quite simply "which song uses this rhyme scheme?"
I actually happened to listen to the song the other day, which starts with the lines "I'm nothing special, in fact I'm a bit of a bore - if I tell a joke, you've probably heard it before" and thought hang on, that sounds familiar!!
The rhymes in the given songs are
bore/before - thing/sing - proud/loud - walk/talk - start/heart - can/fan
The first three are the first verse; the second three are the second verse.
I'm nothing special, in fact I'm a bit of a bore
If I tell a joke, you've probably heard it before
But I have a talent, a wonderful thing
'Cause everyone listens when I start to sing
I'm so grateful and proud
All I want is to sing it out loud
Mother says I was a dancer before I could walk
She says I began to sing long before I could talk
And I've often wondered, how did it all start?
Who found out that nothing can capture a heart
Like a melody can?
Well, whoever it was, I'm a fan
As for mine - you really don't need to know anything more about music to solve it apart from identifying the songs which has already been done. _________________

It was. ABBA is called the "enclosed" rhyme scheme. The puzzle asks "which song is using the enclosed rhyme scheme". |

I think that it either should have a title of the form "synonym1 synonym2 word1 word2 anagram1 anagram2" or have the lengths of words added to each line *instead* of the notes.
For example:

I'd say line 4 is probably the most recognizable.
After that, I would focus on the ones that have a lot of balloons of the same color until you have a better handle of how they work, because that part seems a little shaky to me. 2 and 8 may be good candidates. |

Oh, it seemed obvious to me that the length of each note will be proportional to the third power of the height of the balloons.
The ratio 23/18 for the small red and brown balloons is sufficiently close to the third root of 2 to bear that out.
I expected that the pure-colored balloons have always ratio 2, and the striped balloons are the dotted notes in between.
The annoying thing is that there are balloons of different colors that seem to have equal size. _________________ Mundus vult decipi, ergo decipiatur. |

OK good, glad that was clear enough then. Some clarification on balloon size below (spoilered)
If you actually do the math on some of the other balloons you will see that they are not powers of two. Also, all colors should be different sizes though some are quite close-- the colors for a distinct pattern to help sort those out a little. |

I thought long and hard about what my puzzle would be. I wanted something different but up my ally enough I could be counted as an expert on the theme. But my interests are varied and pretty eccentric. But when it came down to it there is one place on the web that I spend as much and maybe more time on then the GL. TVtropes .org. so why not use this as a platform to share the most wonderful waste of time I have found in internet land.
Tropes Challenge
So have you ever noticed how the same plots and characters appear over and over again in movies and TV and even literature. Find it interesting that the Lion King is basically a retelling of MacBeth or how every movie Villian makes the same mistakes over and over. Welcom to the fascinating world of Tropes. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HomePage
TVtropes is a website I spend countless hours on and be warned I take no responsibility for any competitor who ends up wasting their life on the site. There is even an article on the site about how dangerous it can be. so please read this yahoo article before attempting to research the site. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
http://voices.yahoo.com/tv-tropes-bad-place-will-ruin-life-5901300.html
Anyway on to the challenge. Your task should you choose to accept it i to base your puzzle around a particular trope(s). Note that on the site are pages about media and then lists what tropes they contain. That is not what im looking for. I dont want a puzzle based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail but you could do a puzzle based on the trope Amusing Injuries which is used in the movie (Black Night). If you need more info on what exactly a trope is...well there's a page for that too. happy hunting.

For Scurra's I would like to think that the pictures of the women will somehow determine how these pieces fit into a sudoku. Before I took a close look at the pictures my immediate thought was "Brady Bunch." Doesn't look like the photos are unambiguously facing in different directions, though.
It DOES appear that the givens in the grid may have a vertical line of symmetry (though I expected rotational.)
Also, thanks El |

With groza's, I have run into a problem early on:
There's only one region the L can be (with 5 neighbours.) The O and the T must be the two adjacent regions that don't cross the equator (because the hares don't live in the southern hemisphere.) The O must also be the forest region (because of the B) but that means that the B and the T both have to be the other desert region.
I assume I must be making an elementary mistake somewhere, but - as usual - I can't see what it is.
p.s. for my sudoku - yes, it should have been rotational symmetry. I wish I'd thought of that at the time... _________________

It didn't say that the hares were ubiquitous on Ottakun. Also, there are two regions with 5 neighbours on the same continent. I ran into trouble later on. _________________ Mundus vult decipi, ergo decipiatur. |

| For scurra's puzzle, I still maintain that there must be a pattern based on the women. If there isn't, then the three major rows and columns in the sudoku can be swapped around indiscriminately. If anyone can identify them I think that's a good first step. |

I don't recognize any of them, which made me figure they might be British.
I found Bonnie Langford pretty much by searching for redheaded actresses. She's on the 6823 square.
http://iaith.tapetrade.net/meltotv.jpg
She's from Dr. Who apparently, so maybe the other actresses link to that as well?
Seems so, the blonde on the 8 square is Billie Piper.

Makes sense, "Who are you."
I've actually made some good progress but I admit to using a sudoku solver so I'm not going to share it here.
Scurra: On the square with the 6823 given, there's a box with no words... should that contain the word "a"? |
