MA - LLAMA / ALL
LE - ELITE / TIE
?? - GNU
DO - DIR / DROID
A - ABUT / TUB
PS - LEPERS / REEL
??- DEER
I - NAVE / EVIAN
S - STRESSED / DESERTS
D - DOOM / MOO

?? - RIB
I - EVIAN / NAVE
MA - ALL / LLAMA
PS - REEL / LEPERS
DO - DROID / DIR
S - DESERTS / STRESSED
D - MOO / DOOM

A - TUB / ABUT

For the unmatched ones:
BID is one letter from RIB

Still dunno what to do with this, or with the title...

When you do the pairing you should put the words from the first group first.

If I put the words I've paired back to back they're all one letter from a palindrome:

D/R - bi(DR)ib
A - llamall
L - eitetie
N - gudug
O - dirdrid
A - buttub
P - leersreel
E - derbred
I - naveevan
S -streseddeserts
D - oommoo

Not to leap in at the end without helping along the way, but those letters anagram quite well.

Keeping the order from the second list, I get:

D/R - bi(DR)ib
I - naveevan
A - llamall
P - leersreel
O - dirdrid
S -streseddeserts
D - oommoo
E - derbred
A - buttub
L - eitetie
N - gudug

Feel free to leap in. I haven't found an 11-letter anagram that works, maybe it's more than one word you've found?

I was thinking PALINDROMES is likely right, maybe the A in your list needs to be an M.

Yeah, I guess LLAMA ALL also works as M - llaaall

It is indeed PALINDROMES. All yours, jbv.

Nice work, guys. The puzzle didn't work as well as I'd hoped - I think the word pairing process wasn't apparent enough, at least not for a "quickie". Laughing

The reason your palindromes didn't quite work is that you need to add a letter to each pairing to make a non-gibberish palindrome. For example, bid rib -> biRd rib.

The dance is the Foxtrot.

The animals are:
1. kinkajou
2. skink
3. weasel (I think)
4. (I'm sure Quailman knows.)
5. badger?

Otherwise, I got nothin'.

It's a little curious that the two I am sure of (because I was able to find the exact picture) both have "kink" in their names. But that didn't lead anywhere for the other three.

Apparently that comment brought this to a screeching halt.

The first one should be solved easily enough.

The second one might be more recognizable if you messed with the image a bit.

I had a thought for the first one that I dismissed as a false lead, but just in case it wasn't, the idea is that each word could be combined with one letter to form a new word or phrase. I.e.:

Team + A = A-Team
Sync + N = 'N Sync
Spoon + T = Tea Spoon
Little + B = Belittle
During + N = Enduring

I had the same thought but didn't have time to pursue it to its end. Additional words:

Cur + B = Beaker
Sing + I/K = Icing/Casing
Shin + A? = Asian?
Den + E = Eden
Team + A = A-Team
Sync + N = 'N Sync
Spoon + T = Tea Spoon
Little + B = Belittle
Gents + A = Agents
Not
During + N = Enduring
Knighted + U = United
Brother
Mate + T = Teammate
Bull
Lee
Tube + U = Youtube
Wrapped
Movie + B = B Movie
Mobile + T = T-Mobile
Leo

Doesn't quite work. I don't think Eden works either btw, since the stress is wrong. A + Den = Aidan might be better. Seems like many of these words would have multiple solutions though.

To keep this quick, you've hit on all the right letters for the first puzzle. You just need to work it out so that each letter works with 3 of the words. It's probably more fair if I replaced Sing with Zing.

And you do have the correct solutions for the final five puzzles.

Something like this, perhaps.

B
+ Cur = Beaker
+ Little = Belittle
+ Movie = B Movie

E
+ Zing = Easing
+ Den = Eden
+ Shin = ???

A
+ Team = A-Team
+ Gents = Agents
+ Bull = Able

T
+ Spoon = Tea Spoon
+ Mate = Teammate
+ Mobile = T-Mobile

N
+ Sync = 'N Sync
+ During = Enduring
+ Wrapped = Enrapt

U
+ Knighted = United
+ Tube = Youtube
+ Leo = Yulio?

Y
+ Brother = Vibrator
+ Not = Why Not
+ Lee = Wylie?

In the original order this becomes
BEEEANTBAYNUYTAYUNBTU

So in order of first occurence:
BEANTYU

I guess we'll have to anagram, then.

BEAUTY N' is the best I can find, so maybe the answer is BEAST.

BEAST SUSPECT TRADES TEA FOR INK

Not sure about this...

The following puzzle is a rejected Mystery Hunt metapuzzle. This year, the rounds were all parodies of Broadway musicals, and the answer to every metapuzzle was something that would make the musical even worse than it already was. I understand why we didn't go with it, but its title still amuses me.

"Jesus Christ, Spider Man"

Puzzle answers:
HARMONY
HOBBLING
REAGAN
TERCEL
KOSHER
PINING
HORN
PORCINO
NONMETAL
NIKE
KNAVE
MORTISE

Password is a phrase concatenated as one word.

It was a cryptic clue, which El knew from our previous discussions. I assumed that it was recognized as a cryptic, but maybe not.

The solution was UNSINKABLE - Suspect = Unstable - Trade "t" for "ink"

Got it. Really cool.

Each word is an anagram of a Spider-Man villain, missing one letter:

HARMONY - Hydroman - D
HOBBLING - Hobgoblin - O
REAGAN - Carnage - C
TERCEL - Electro - O
KOSHER - Shocker - C
PINING - Kingpin - K
HORN - Rhino - I
PORCINO - Scorpoin - S
NONMETAL - Molten Man - M
NIKE - Kaine - A
KNAVE - Kraven - R
MORTISE - Mysterio - Y

DOC OCK IS MARY

New one in a bit.
