mith recently asked me for admin rights to the GL. He's not requesting them because it's cool; he has an actual need for them. He's the GLOC admin, and he wants to travel through the forums freely and move puzzles to the GLOC forum.
I'm posting to ask you members if we should give them to him. Please don't say "no" just because. Understand that he really does need these rights; it's not just to increase the size of his belt bulckle.
my vote: Yes.
If I don't see any objections by tomorow I will give him the rights and he can get started.
Also, what is to become of mith's old forum?
I vote that we move VG back to Minotaur.
Mith wants Dragon Phoenix to have VG.
But like I said, everyone gets a say.

vote: Mith
I am willing to take on VG moderation, if that does not require computer knowledge.
Since when are we voting on moderators by the way?? |

I dunno...
I think we should do away with mods personaly. Easy for me to say I guess.... [=
We asked for mods to fix broken threads, since then (IMO) the mods are looked at as "power hungry". Maybe I'm just paranoid. |

Probably
Seriously, I think having mods is a good thing, but they should use their powers wisely. Censorship is not something to be done lightly, and there have been occasions in the past where that has been overdone. Thread fixing, moving threads to the right forums, and the occasional suggestion for changes (which I think would be better done by E-mail then in public) come in quite handy.
I have stated before, I am not hovering around waiting to see whether I can become a mod, unlike some others (mentioning no Macroses ). However, if we decide to appoint a new mod for VG (and I personally think we should), I am willing to do it. It is my favorite part of the GL. But if it requires computer knowledge, I am out...

Vote: mith. I understand why he needs this. I am indifferent to the need for Moderators. I have had very few occasions to wield my authority.
I am surprised by Dragon Phoenix's comment that censorship had been overdone in the past. Mostly as a mod, I've fixed links where someone entered a typo in the code. I've also e-mailed a couple of new members who I thought posting immaturely or inappropriately - polite e-mails, I might add, as opposed to the flames in the threads. In one situation, member A started a thread; Newbie B posted a flame to it; Member C e-mailed me asking me to delete Newbie B's post. My response was to say that would be unneeded censorship, but I couldn't stop Member A from deleting the thread (it was still new). I think Member C e-mailed A and the thread got censored/deleted without me.
If you are talking about my editing of Coyote's post about Mike, I didn't change a thing. I just made it sound as if Coyote had revealed some deep dark secret that Mike wouldn't have wanted known, such as a penchant for little boys.
There have been two occasions when I've fixed threads by editing/deleting corrupted posts, and a couple others where I was able to help fix another thread by communicating with another moderator, so maybe i do think mods are needed. |

| Quailman, I was referring to an action by Courk in VG which drew some flak by those involved. Basically she deleted a word she did not like, after which the word reappeared upon editing by the owner of the post as "dog of the female gender". |

I agree with everything Quail said, except...
I don't think we need mods now that we have admins. Moderator is just a cool title--until you get it.
I'm not objecting to mods, just so everyone knows. It just seems that some members get offended by not getting to be a mod; I agree that the idea is unfair. Truth be told, I would rather eliminate the mods completly, change the Minotaur title to "Daedalian Member" and have two or three admins running around with nobody knowing who they are.
I've given mith admin rights, and DP the rights to VG. On a side note for DP, if you find a thread that is corupted beyond repair, move it to Archives, email me, and I'll fix it and move it back. Not because I don't think you can fix it, just because I'm the only one that has the access to.
Congrats mith. [= |

Oh, I see, DP. I missed that one. That latter situation is the best reason to keep mods. And just for the record, although mith acknowledged it, it was my idea for him to move the corrupted thread over to Archives until an administrator could fix it. ~pats self on back~ |

A few drinks inside me and off I go, please don't take this the wrong way, not sure what the right way is at the moment anyway, but, Could it be possible to have a Moderator or assistant Moderator based in Europe? The only reason being is that sometimes when the few of us Europeans are on, and a thread gets corrupted, it takes a while for the Americans to wake up and sort it out. Not that it's your fault, but the time difference makes it at least 5 hours behind from the nearest, and the broken thread, as it has done in the past I've noticed, shags up the site. ok, drunken piece said, I'll crawl back into my bottle.
Thanks for listening anyway. |

It's a good idea... i suppose we'd need an australian one too? The thing is, a mod can't really fix anything unless it's in their forum, and even then it sometimes takes an admin. and until/unless hy changes the ubb code to allow multiple mods, we can't really have 3 mods per forum...
Besides, Luna can fix it |

This is completely irrelevant, but DP should count as an "Australian" for timezone purposes. So you don't need to worry about me being awarded the moderator title just because of where I live or anything... |

| I seem to recall that moderators can only moderate in their own forum. That rather defeats the purpose of having a European and/or Australian moderator since the right person has to be available anyway. Perhaps this could be changed. |
