You're the VSP moderator! Some idiot is posting profanity and out-of-place references to oral consummation in VSP!

I agree that marshmallow is an idiot. He's even more idiotic than me! I mean, at least I don't cuss openly like he does.

It would help the mods if you include a link to the thread. Not that I can do something about VSP, but just in case something like this happens in VG.

I'm not on round the clock. The posts in question were made around 10:30 GL time last night. I deleted them around 5:45 GL time this morning. Sorry for the delay.

Now there are several threads with say, a puzzle posted by a legitimate daedalian, followed by another member's reaction stating "That kind of language doesn't belong here! Do you eat with that mouth?" I left all the reactions alone.

I still thought we agreed that profanity, and the sort would be better ignored and the poster told not to post such things.

But maybe not.

As long as everyone is happy.

I agree in principle, Hy, even though my thread was one of the 'victims'.

But I was there when the hit-and-run occurred, and believe me, no content was lost by deleting those posts. They didn't even cut the grade as flame-bait. Quail might just as well have just blown a few bits of lint off the forums for all the difference the deletions made.

I am all for caution wrt censorship, but in these cases it was more than deserved to delete the trash. Good call as far as I am concerned.

Sorry guys.

I still belive that no moderation is good moderation.

On a side note:

Who told him that? Not I.
Please don't forget, I'm not JUST a moderator; I'm a user too. Just because me, mith, quail, luna, merc, samahdi, lepton, or any other person says something should be some way doesn't mean that it should. I wasn't saying Quail was in the wrong. I would have done the same thing. I just found it odd that after everyone agreed that "no moderation" was good moderation, several of the users asked that threads that weren't hurting the GL's html be deleted.

IMO, Quail had no reason to say "sorry for the dalay". If he had seen them before LW posted this thread, I don't think Quail would have deleted the posts anyway. Of course being Quail, he turned them into humorous confusing threads, so it all turned out for the best anyway.

I deleted the offensive posts before I saw the message asking me to. When I noticed the first one, I checked his profile and he had 5 posts. They were easy to find. 4 of them were total garbage, and wouldn't be missed, so it was a no-brainer to send them away.

"No moderation is good moderation." I agree 100%. If not, I'd expect to see about half the Jokes thread in OT get nixed. There are some doozies in there. Each time I reread Borodog's recent contribution I laugh even harder.

On the other hand, if some immature little twit shows up and posts nothing but obscenities just because he can, I have no problem using my moderator privileges, and nothing any of you say will change that.

I can't argue that without starting a fight, so I'll just say I disagree with that statement 110%. I'm not saying something any of us could say would change that; I just disagree with how you phrased it.

Point taken. I did phrase it poorly. If you study my posts, especially ones that are more than two sentences, you'll see that I don't know how to end them. I usually wrap it up with some foolish statement and hit [submit reply].

I think there's a big difference in moderating the posts of a Daedalian and someone who just appeared on the board to post obscenities. I was glad to see the Quailman delete them. It wasn't like someone we knew who just happened to post offensive subject matter or language...that, IMHO, I feel shouldn't be moderated.

I'd feel the same if say a one-visit Icarian came and posted 20 blank topics in VSP without anything obscene at all. I'd hope Quailman would delete them instead of having to wait for them to be pushed off the board's Page 1.

I have to side completely with Hy on this one, but I certainly haven't been around long enough to say why, or get into this one. Not that I have any problem with what quailman did either.

Hey, with statements like that, maybe I really could be the president someday...

I too have no objections with what Quail did; in fact, I applaud it.
I was just surprised at the reactions of some of the members. They acted as though there was some crisis. It wasn't a big deal, and would have made no difference if Quail had done nothing.

To me that's abbusing ubb. The posts would actually hinder the functionality of the boards.

Now you say the content of those posts was just cussing, but are you 100% sure it wasn't an elaborate puzzle of some kind? I've seen posts that I thought were off the wall retarded, that turned out to be Soma^3 messing with us.

If it's obvious--like 20 blank posts obvious--that the user is just trying to hurt the functionality of the boards I wouldn't hesitate to delete them. But if the post is just rude and not threatening any members, I wouldn't delete it without being asked.

It did seem like a bit of an overreaction when I read the thread topic here. I often sign on from home very early in the morning, but since my connection time is slow there, I only check a news page and sometimes the puzzles or VG (in case I need to vote or defend myself in a Mafia game). As soon as I saw the first crap this guy posted, I checked his profile and found his other 4 posts. Since there was absolutely no worthwhile content, I deleted them. It wasn't until much later (at work) that I spotted this topic and thought there must be an emergency.
