Random question about guitar hero for Wii:

I have mine set up for lefty, but when the opening Wii screen comes up (where you have to select the game vs. internet vs virtual console, etc), it's still assuming righty, so it's a bit weird to get the cursor over to the game icon. Is there a way to fix that?

Have you played Eversion, by any chance? It's a fairly cutesy game with a twist, sorta like those shock sites where you sit and look at one picture, and it's quiet, and then WHAM! Instant shock and alarm.

Penumbra is nothing like that, it's somehow the complete opposite. It has an atmosphere so thick you can cut it, but no shock scares whatsoever, and from an artistic point of view, it's almost unique in gaming.

Splinter Cell (PC)

8/10

Good, old, classic third-person stealth game. Pretty fun. Nowadays it doesn't feel too revolutionizing, but it's quite clear why this and Hitman still rules the genre (although Hitman has far more replayability). And the port was actually quite well done.

My favorite part of the game was the Chinese Embassy levels (hardly too much of a spoiler, as the game has a list of the levels).

A couple of very artsy games.

Braid

10/10

The Marriage

I have no idea how to rate this one. See for yourself

I picked up Batman: Arkham Asylum on the universal recommendation of people I know locally, and snagged Ghostbusters while I was there. I've been playing the latter recently. I like it, but I'm horribly biased.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is the best superhero game I've ever played. They nailed the Batman universe. Nailed it.

There is a fabulous deal on Steam right now, only 5 € (or $ or £, depending on your location) (and if you do go steam, remember to join our group. Maybe it'll eventually get big enough to be useful). It's the best video game deal for me since I bought Beyond Good and Evil as part of a large package for 10 € (honestly, the other games were either too hard, or not that good, but 10 € for Beyond Good and Evil is an awesome deal anyway).

Braid is fairly short, but definitely great. To be able to appreciate it though, you have to think about it. The game doesn't try to tell you why you must love this game, it merely gives you a minimalist story, a set of puzzles and vague instructions on how to solve them. You'll find yourself wandering like a young child, who's just learned an entire new world and is always fascinated by it, rather than frustrated. Our limited vocabulary sadly cannot describe video game art yet, so I think I'll leave it at that. Well, it's worthy both as a game and as a work of art.

Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade

So, this game is 5 years older than me. And it shows. The graphics themselves (I mean, it's Indy), despite being very pixelated, don't annoy me. The fact that all the sound effects are MIDI does, though. Although the Indy theme was kinda cute in MIDI. The fact that I cannot save either also annoys me. But I'm having a whole lotta fun while playing it.

I don't think Fate of Atlantis is quite as good as an adventure - but it certainly benefits from not knowing the plot ahead of time! It's still loads of fun though
I loved the Diary that came with the original that acted as a sort of weird "copy protection" system. Are you playing a reissue? Is the Diary included?

And yes, you made me feel old as well. I just played the remake of The Secret of Monkey Island which I hadn't played since it originally came out 20 years ago - and laughed all the way through, even though I remembered quite a lot of the jokes.

I'm playing Bioshock right now. My third playthrough. Doing the bloody thing on hardest difficulty with vita-chambers off. Great game. Most surprisingly, it actually has an interesting story, something which only rarely happens in video games.

I cannot praise the first Bioshock enough. A great first-person shooter, VERY immersive, fantastic story, all around a very fun game.

You can get it right now for the PC by pre-ordering Bioshock 2 on Steam (with 10% off). For those who haven't played it yet, but do like FPS games, I highly recommend this.

For now, I have been replaying Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction for PS3.

Except the story kind of stops two-thirds in, and after Apollo Square, the game's almost bad, sadly. Some critique of it though: The pc version suffers from so many flaws in comparison to it's console counterparts, such as annoying DRM (an install limit of 2? Seriously? Fortunately it has unlimited installs now) and poor optimization with some setups, such as Windows Vista. But, once you get around to play it, great game. I have a lot of fun playing through all the levels, and finding new things every time I play through (the first Big Daddy seen in the game is in fact a rosie, and you can see a single rosie walking on the ocean floor once).

I'm currently debating whether or not I can overcome SecuROM, Games for Windows Live and Steam at the same time. Hopefully though, the Steam version of it won't include SecuROM, but that isn't very clear at the moment.

Just finished my first game of fallout 3. Played as a good character, ended as Last Best Hope for Humanity. I got to level 19 and realized I should probably work on finishing the "main" quest. Reached level 20 by the time I finally found my dad. Quite a bizzare but interesting turn of events at the end, since I just powered through the end of the game from that point.

Now working on my sociopath character, who's already Very Evil thanks to one quest and rampant thievery.

edit: also got catan on xbla, anyone else game? Revenge most foul!

Oh man, I'm really jonesing for a PS3. On top of Final Fantasy XIII and Sonic 4, today I found out about 3D Dot Game Heroes. It has full 3D 8-bit graphics! (Search for pics to see what I mean.) Also, it has good humor. Quotes:

You may not know this, but the Flame Temple is full of raging fire!

Trust me, ramming into enemies, even from the side, doesn't work here. (Free cookie to anyone that can identify that reference.)

Meh, the Pokemon games really haven't changed much. They still add more, but the core game is unchanged. Even the goals, go around, get 8 badges, beat the Elite Four (plus one), and then go do whatever for a while. Besides, Yellow came latter, and added some stuff that wasn't in the original Red/Green/Blue trilogy. So nyah.

I've been playing God of War (PS3 remake) lately. It's entertaining, and I hope to get the platinum trophy to increase my e-peen. Then I'll start on God of War II. Good deal at $30 for the two pack. Though the God of War 3 special edition is supposed to have them as well.

BioShock 2 for pc. As a shooter, it's much more solid than the first game. The story is not as strong, but at least, it has a (several) decent ending(s). The RPG elements have been improved, but not made a lot deeper. The hacking is a lot less intrusive.

The multiplayer is fun, but superglitchy. Oh, and no dedicated servers or LAN.

So I finally got a copy of Braid and holy crap, it's amazing. For those unfamiliar, it's a puzzle platformer where you solve puzzles by manipulating time in interesting ways. The puzzles are quite ingenious and I absolutely loved that you had to solve the same puzzle in different ways depending on what sort of time-travel mechanics were available to you.
It is a bit short and has little to no replay value; I beat the game in two sittings. But considering I was totally stumped on about a third of the puzzles after the first sitting, solving them in the second was invigorating. Definitely worthwhile.

I'm currently enjoying replaying Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which is about 7 years old now, but is still a fantastic piece of level design combined with a decent narrative. The camera control is lousy, and the controls are sometimes inconsistent, but in general it works well - and, of course, the "rewind" effect makes the game a little more forgiving than usual without it feeling like a simple cheat code.

I don't think I managed to finish the game last time out (the final boss defeated me iirc) so I'm determined to get there this time.

Just "beat" Super Mario Galaxy 2, though I have 49 stars to go before I get all the stars (well, actually, that's not including the 120 hidden stars unlocked after *that*).

It's a great, great game, significantly harder than the first one, bubbling with creativity. It's pretty much the polar opposite of the other game I'm playing, Red Dead Redemption, which is great in completely different ways.
