Now that Duplicate Deal or No Deal is over, I'm shortly going to feel a huge void in my life if I don't start modding something again. I was considering doing an edition of Points to Play, if there was enough interest. I was thinking of running it with one basic modification each round, so it's not just a straight port of the first game. At the least I have a different way of deciding the winner of the final two that's more efficient than tracking everyone down at the end of the game, but not random Revenge most foul!

So, any takers?

Here's a link to the original I believe http://www.greylabyrinth.com/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=11822&start=0

Players:
Amb
MatthewV
MNOWAX
ralphmerridew
Undercover Monk
Courk
sablliminal
Cordelia

I know I'm like a leper now and whatnot, but I just wanted to throw in my two cents...well one cent (there's a recession dagnabbit).

For the original game, as far as I can see, there wasn't too big of a problem with tracking down 'the jury'. There was only one player who was a little late and at least in the end the game did end up being decided.

Another thing, there isn't really that many just ways to decide the winner other than to tie it to the mechanics of all the game beforehand, getting goodwill from people and whatnot. It ensures a winner who by the unpredictable fate of the game, maneuvered through the rounds and handled the people in the manner that was most beneficial to their winning. It may not be the person who wins every round or is the most popular with people, but who struck the right amount of chords to beat the other guy and earn the vote (be it out of spite, love, respect, etc.) of the greater half of their fallen comrades.

Take pete d for instance, he was up against Courk who won more than her fair share of rounds and earned friendship with a good deal of the players. He (practically) only stepped on one set of toes (wordcross) and STILL managed to receive his vote, although that may have been due to good sportsmanship. He won despite the amount of people saying he wouldn't, despite those who voted for his opponent. All a PTP player depends on for victory is just getting by round after round with what the people overall have bestowed upon the table. All they depend on is the voice of the people. It wouldn't seem fair for the final round to depend on anything else be it a round of Tension/The List/Guess the Woody Allen Movie, IF there were to be an absence of said element in the other nine or so rounds.

Sounds interesting though, I do wish you the best of luck lex. Wink

I didn't mean to make it sound insulting, P2P was a successful format. I just thought up a system that lets people put in their two cents on who should win in a different way. I assure you it's not an arbitrary game at the end, it is very much dependent on how the other players feel about the finalists. I've learned my lesson from the Trials of the Gods final Extreme Delectation

Okay, I have a 7 person setup that works, but I'll wait a bit past the weekend to see if we can hit 9 or more. Odd is preferable but not necessary.

Alright, enough stalling, it's time to begin POINTS TO PLAY: Twists and Turns! Here's the big fat rules post.

Each round I will reveal a twist of some sort, but the basic game stays the same. All players get three point blocks each round: a 1 point, 2 point, and 3 point block. Those points must be given to other players in the thread (IN BOLD for mod legibility). You can give the blocks to the same or different players, and you do not have to give them all away but you can not split up the points within a block.

Once all points are distributed, the player who has the most points is crowned the Decider and selects one player to eliminate from the game. If there is a tie for Decider, the first player to achieve their point total wins. Then the next round starts this process all over again. In the final round, the winner will be determined an a currently unannounced way.

(underlined sentence added)

One note: I will allow outside collusion for this game, so feel free to PM and message on AIM or email or whatever you have to do.

That all being said, each round some sort of twist will be revealed, and if the twist overrules the standard rules. Good luck, and let's begin!

ROUND ONE: Co-opoints to play

This round you have been randomly assigned into teams of two. As a team, you are each given ONE set of points, a 1 a 2 and a 3. You must give them away as a team to other TEAMS, not players. The TEAM that gets the most points will then be the decider. They will then decide as a team one PLAYER to eliminate from the game.

To ensure team play, BOTH players from each team must post the point assignments in bold before it becomes official. The same goes for the elimination.

Here are the teams:
Cordelia & Undercover Monk
ralphmerridew & Courk
Amb & sablliminal
MNOWAX & MatthewV

Have at it!

So, Monk, do we want any points? Do we want to avoid that awful burden of Deciding? Or do we desperately wish to strike someone out?

We could give a set of points to each team.

I think we should try to get me eliminated this first round. I don't want to be eliminated. If I try to be eliminated, I get a warm feeling of success or still being in the game.

well my normal position is to never help Amb, but I still owe him for the help he gave me in BINGO......hmmmm.

The other thing we could do is give all our points to one team and hope they are so grateful they won't attack us. idk any ideas.

I could be swung to helping any team, as there is no one playing here that doesn't deserve points.

I forgot to add how to break ties in picking the decider. If multiple players have the highest score for a round, then the first player to reach that score will win the round.

So in that case this round, MNOWAX and MatthewV are the deciding team with 12, as ralphmerridew & Courk could only get to 12 tops, and would not be the first team to do so. And Cordelia and UM have unofficially given their points to Amb and Sablliminal anyways.

But I digress. MNOWAX & MatthewV must make their decision. Please post in bold which PLAYER you will eliminate from the game.

Knock off RaLpHmErRiDeW. And if you knock off, say Cordelia instead (hint hint), you will know that I have now angered both of them. That means I won't be getting points from them anymore, and possibly get directed anger from them. Thus I am less a threat.
