| For II, I see a rainbow of possibilities. But I haven't figured out what the numbers are. |

Zag,
You are on the right lines.
But the final answer lies beyond what you can see there... |

Well, it's been there a while. I'll explain my cryptic hint, and maybe someone else will see something more.
Each of the words listed can be matched with a color of the rainbow.
Red Meat
Agent Orange
Yellow Submarine
Green Lantern
Blue Shield
Indigo Girls
?
Presumably the last one is some expression that goes with violet, but nothing jumps to mind as a compelling choice.
Then there are the numbers, I still don't get what they are for. |

For I the answer is bowling
81:X :5/:62:8/ :35: X :60: 9/ : 3/7
9 :29:45:53:66:74:90:96:109:126
Spoilers and Code don't mix, so this one was a pain to format. Any suggestions? _________________ Jan 21st, 2008: The pillaging continues.

Well spotted!
How about:
X = strike (all 10 pins on 1st ball. Score for that round = 10 + next 2 ball raw scores)
/ = spare (remainder of 10 pins with 2nd ball. Score = 10 + next one ball raw score)
R1. 81 (9) -> 9
R2. x (10+5+5) -> 29
R3. 5/ (10+6) -> 45
R4. 62 (8) -> 53
R5. 8/ (10+3) -> 66
R6. 35 (8) -> 74
R7. x (10+6+0) -> 90
R8. 60 (6) -> 96
R9. 9/ (10+n) -> 106+n
R10. ?/ 7 (10+7) -> 123+n [so n=3]
The optional 3rd and 4th ball(s) in R10 are to enable any spare/strike in R10 to be scored without disadvantage against strikes/spares scored by other players in earlier rounds.
I don't see why you ad a problem with spoiler/formatting. I've only rearranged the table to make it clearer to read... |

Good work on the first one referee. I remember a lot of people from the original competition were kicking themselves for not seeing it once they saw the actual answer. |
