Welcome to Prisoner’s Dilemma Mafia

Two suspects are arrested by the police. The police have insufficient evidence for a conviction, and, having separated both prisoners, visit each of them to offer the same deal. If one testifies (defects from the other) for the prosecution against the other and the other remains silent (cooperates with the other), the betrayer goes free and the silent accomplice receives the full 10-year sentence. If both remain silent, both prisoners are sentenced to only six months in jail for a minor charge. If each betrays the other, each receives a five-year sentence. Each prisoner must choose to betray the other or to remain silent. Each one is assured that the other would not know about the betrayal before the end of the investigation. How should the prisoners act?

The Suspects
1. Amb
2. raekuul
3. Undercover Monk
4. Zag
5. MNOWAX
6. Courk
7. lexprod

The 10 Commandments*

<01> Votes should be bolded. Example - Vote: sAbLLimINal, is an acceptable vote. You may also Unvote if you want to have your vote removed.

<02> A lynch will occur when a player has obtained a majority of votes. Once this happens, the day will automatically be over, and no one will be able to change their vote. Voting for a no-lynch is also acceptable. Remember, voting no-lynch is not the same as not voting. If the majority of players vote no-lynch, the day will end and go to night.

<03> You may not communicate with anyone about this game unless your role says otherwise. If this is the case, follow the instructions in your PM.

<04> Do not edit your posts if you are able to do so, and don't use invisible text.

<05> Don't quote the mod. This means that you should not quote any kind of communication between you and me in this thread.

<06> Once you are dead, you're dead. Don’t post until the game is over, unless it’s a ‘bah!’ post.

<07> Be sure to notify me if you go away for more than a few days so we don’t have to wait for you.

<08> Right now there are no deadlines. If there needs to be one, they will be 1-week deadlines. If the deadline is reached, then the game will immediately and go to night. If no majority has been reached prior to the deadline, then the person who has the most votes is lynched. If there is a tie, there will be no lynch.

<09> Nights will last 72 hours. If you submit a night action late, and I'm not here, then you're lucky and I'll count it. If I'm here and you don't send a night action, then you're out of luck.

<10> Remember, this is a game. And oh yeah, have fun! =D

*Those were the standard mafia rules, these are additional rules. (Be sure to read these as they might contradict some of the standard rules!)

1) Instead of 1 lynch vote, each player has 2 votes to vote on 2 different players to be sent to prison. Both votes cannot be used on the same player unless specified otherwise.
2) At the end of each day, the 2 players that have the most votes gets sent to prison for interrogation during the night. If there should ever be a tie, it will be broken by whoever reached a certain number of votes first unless specified otherwise.
3) While in prison, the 2 players will be asked the question: “Is the other player mafia?” The results are below unless specified otherwise.
4) At the start of the next day, the town will be informed of what the players said (yes or no) but will not be informed of what the players choose if they received any kind of reward unless specified otherwise.
5) Prisoners cannot target others and cannot be targeted by others unless specified otherwise.

Interrogation Results:
No/No
- Both players choose either a cop investigation or doc protection (may self-protect)

Yes/No
- Yes gets double vote next day AND chooses cop investigation, doc protection (may self-protect), or next-day prisoner immunity.
- No is automatically executed

Yes/Yes
- Both players play RAF to determine their fate

All of the roles have been sent out. Let me know if I messed something up. When a majority of people have confirmed their role the game will start.

If one player has majority votes (let's say Amb has all of us voting for him) but no other player is at majority yet, is Amb locked in as a prisoner and we keep playing until we get another? If so is Amb allowed to keep talking and voting or is he immediately swept away to jail? Or can votes on Amb be moved still until there's two majority-voted-prisoners?

confirm.

Questions about the rewards:

If I choose cop investigation, I assume that means I get to investigate any other player, as if I were a cop. Does that happen right away, or do I not get the ability until the following night? If the latter, then this is pretty awkward if I get indicted again right away.

If I choose next-day prisoner immunity (which I never will be able to do, since I will be saying "no" if arrested), do you inform people right away not to vote for me? Or do you wait and see if I get indicted once again, and then say, "that doesn't count because he has immunity"?

@lexprod: The day only ends when there are two players who have reached majority at that time. Choices are not 'locked' in until the day ends.

@zag: cop investigations happen right away as if your role was a cop. If one were to choose next-day prisoner immunity, I will go ahead and tell the town not to vote for that person. And, about the no-lynch vote, remember that

1) Instead of 1 lynch vote, each player has 2 votes to vote on 2 different PLAYERS to be sent to prison. Both votes cannot be used on the same player unless specified otherwise.

I know this does contradict one of the first rules I put about no-lynching, but the votes must be on players. Sorry about that confusion, my mistake.

Amb has confirmed to me via PM, so the game will start.

It is now Day 1. With 7 alive, 4 is the majority!

Can I make a suggestion that we get a couple of people indicted who are reasonably trustworthy to each other (Aye, there's the rub, isn't it?) and can be confidant of both saying 'no.' Both should ask for cop info reward, and we can get a quick jump on the mafia. We're in a peculiar situation that people can claim cop info without painting the giant target on their heads as is usual when claiming to be a cop. Let's use it!

I'll even volunteer to go to prison, as long as the other person who is headed there (looks like you, Amb Extreme Delectation ) agrees to say 'no' as well.

Having volunteered, now I feel nervous about it. But I'd like to point out to whoever ends up going to prison with me that turning against me now will be a humongous scum tell, and it means you'll be in constant RAF wars until you lose. You'll only have that one exemption from prison that you'll get by turning on me, and then you'll be sent up the river every day after that.

With that said: Vote: Zag and whoever else volunteers and agrees to say 'no'

Ok. I was sort of hoping to get agreement before stepping into the confession booth. Amb, do you agree to say 'no' and get some cop info with me?

By the way, I do NOT automatically volunteer to do this again in the future. That path leads to the same "target on forehead" that a normal cop gets. This is my one volunteering, at the very least until everyone has taken the same risk.

(Sab, are prisoners immune from night kill by mafia?)

While we have a little time, how do you think we should use the results? I think revealing whoever comes up scum is pretty much fine, as a false claim would immediately cast suspicion on the claimer, but if it comes up town a reveal could spell doom for whoever is "cleared."

Hmmm. I have to admit that I hadn't really thought about that. I was assuming that we'd just reveal our findings the next day. I had figured that the scum already know who the townies are, so it's not news to them, after all. But I should have realized (playing scum in my only other game of mafia) that they do care about who the rest of the town knows is safe, and they can't allow too many of those hanging around.

On the other other hand, if the scum know that we have extra information about who is clean, then we'll be targeted. I don't like that at all.

Well...hmm. That's kind of a me or him/her situation I guess. You can hold onto the info and maybe get targetted, or share it and they maybe get targetted. But then again if you don't divulge and get killed, no one will learn that info which also sucks.

I'm not sure XD.

We're almost at majority. We need to not place that final vote yet and discuss who will be investigated. We can't have both of you investigating the same person.

I'm wondering if having you two investigate each other would be worthwhile. Zag I'm not suspicious of (much different vibes compared to his last game), but lexprod could be scum trying to swing this his way somehow.

I will investigate MNOWAX.

That is...if we're making that public. Which I guess we're doing now? Or I'll have to make another random choice once in jail. Cause I can't investigate mno, and then NOT reveal what I got because it'll be obvious it wasn't scum.

Actually, wait wait wait....

If we say who we're targetting, then the scum can just pick one of them who is town and kill them off before we can even tell everyone they were town, since they can't target me or zag. I don't like the sounds of that. Scratch my roll and all that. I guess sab and I will have to just hope we pick different people.

Everyone wakes up and gathers at the center of the town to start another day of discussing which two people should be sent to prison.

The Police Chief shows up as well and announces the results, "Both prisoners said No. That is all."

In an unexpected turn of events, lexprod and Amb have been captured by an unidentified person and sent into prison!

Just a quick reminder, this is not night. This is only a game pause, and the game will resume. So if you have night abilities, you cannot use them.

Also, Sniklac has informed me that he can no longer play, so I'll be looking to replace him.

Everyone, still gathered around now even more anxious awaiting the results of the surprised interrogation.

The Police Chief walks out, "lexprod has chosen No. But, Amb chose Yes. In result, we executed lexprod, but unfortunatly found out that he was a member of the town. Today, Amb's votes will count twice, and he is immuned from going to jail so no one can vote for him. Also, Sniklac has strangely transformed into raekuul. That is all."

lexprod, Townie, has been executed.
raekuul is now replacing Sniklac.

It is still Day 2. With 6 alive, 4 is the majority!

(Simulpost with raekuul.) When lexie and I went to prison, we both said no, as planned. Then I got paranoid because of Courk's comment and investigated him.

I have no idea what happened after that. Amb and lexie were immediately arrested and the Amb fingered lexprod, who I already knew was innocent, but never got a chance to tell anyone.

All I knew was Zag and Lexprod were meant to be in prison, then the mod PMed me to make me make a choice for RAF. The thread was locked (I think) so I never realised there was a pause or anything - as far as I was concerned it was still night. The mod should have been clearer in his PM.

Anyway, because "clearly" I had been sucked into prison in place of Zag, I decided to vig Lex off for information and get me a cop investigation. It never came because it wasnt night (grrr)

Also, I never expected Zag to investigate his fellow prisoner.
