Yes its that time again, It is time to look for Judges for the next installation of ....
TOP GREY LABYRINTHIER!!!!!
If interested, please PM me only! This requires a great deal of work, being able to do a lot of duties and being active in the site. It worked great to have Dented Ford as a Co-mod (hopefully i wont stick a knife through my hand like i did last year...) so im looking for a total of two to three people.
Last years event took the better part of (too lazy to look it up but i think it was about 5 months) So expect a great deal of time to invest in this project. Also this would be a good time to leave some comments here on how i ran it the last time, and some changes that you might consider.
Once again it will be Top Chef Format, and some of the challenges may mimic some of the challenges on the show. The finale will be a final three, and the contestants will be brought through a series of challenges to make it to that point.
Any other questions, comments concerns, let me know. I will be limiting the amount of peopel that can enter, with one exception. Due to Cordelia not being able to finish the competition last year, she will be given a spot if she likes it before anyone else. after that i will be having a total of 12 spots availible, and the sign ups will start soon within the next month.. _________________ The Man The Myth The Legend

Well, I'm not going to offer to judge, because I hope to compete again. Hopefully I won't burn out like I did last time.
I really liked the format -- where you had some interesting and very specific requirements for the puzzles. I can tell you that there is one very specific type of puzzle that has been popular on GL but I was dreading that you would ask for it. Of course, that's all I'm going to say -- I don't want to give you any ideas.
The only thing I didn't like was the team events. They were frustrating to coordinate, and I was pretty uncomfortable eliminating someone because of one. Perhaps, if you feel strongly that you need to have some team events, make them non-elimination rounds, where the members of the winning team get some benefit to the next round.
I don't have any solution to your problem that a lot of people signed up but then just faded away. Even some who were doing very well, like Tahnan, just disappeared. |

Frankly, I feel like I need a rematch...to get that awful taste of abandonment out of my mouth.
Someone had mentioned puzzles with a "final answer" rather than a process, which I think is valid. I will say this, and I think it's true in a lot of artistic endeavours: restrictions breed creativity. Making something restrictive does not hamper the creator, but instead gives a nice structure on which to build. One other thing that you could do is take a finished puzzle and ask the competitors to "dress it up."
Team events are HARD in a forum. On top of that, team events do not necessarily result in ascertaining puzzle-making skill. You could do a puzzle chain, where you give the competitors each a goal, which is the beginning of the next player's puzzle. |

It actually ran from April to December. Don't be too scared though, much of that time was the fact that the judges also have to get chance to work on it. |

| I really should defend my title, but if you have trouble finding judges I'll judge. |

We were all disappointed that you did not get a chance to compete, Cordy. (Of course, if there had been, say, a large cash prize, then we would have been pleased you had to drop out, since most people considered you one of the favorites going in.) |

I don't feel qualified to judge. Most of these puzzles are way too hard for me. I would love to play again. I lasted longer than I should have last time. I hope to be better this time.
I agree that the team efforts were difficult to manage. But I think they resulted in some of the best puzzles. I also enjoyed working with the others here creatively. |

About the team events, yeah they were insane, however I can confirm that there will be at least one team event. whether it will be an elimination round, is up in the air for now.
As for a competition like this, you expect competitors to drop out. (as DF has delightfully pointed out, it was eight months long, im surprised more people didn't drop out....)thats why i grabbed as many as i could last time around. I think 12 is the best number here, as i think it will give enough people a chance without a few people dropping outand letting the entire competition dry up.
A problem i had more on my end was the issue of submissions getting lost, and or eaten by my email spam filters and such. the problem will be solved by having a dedicated Email address for the competition. It will also allow me to hold on to the puzzles longer. I will also have a permament account with a internet file sharing website, so that these submissions don't get eaten as well ( a lot of the links in the Hall of Fame Thread were eaten sadly, and while i found most of the submissions (including yours Groza, PM me!) i dont have them all. _________________ The Man The Myth The Legend

I'm not sure what you are using for an email system, but I highly recommend Thunderbird. It's free, its spam filter learns (really well!), and it knows not to dump any mail from any email address in your book. Just get email addresses from all the competitor's as part of the sign-up process.
If you like, I can set you up with a zag.net account for the game. |

For various reasons, I don't think I shall be able to compete this time around. But I would certainly be willing to judge some of the rounds. _________________
