VOMIT hits two double word scores, so it should be 40 points.

when playing scrabble, I do two things:
1. can I use all of the letters for a bingo? if not, then...
2. where can I make as many words as possible at one time?

They aren't surefire ways to win, but they do pretty well if you're in a time crunch, and the people I play like to play quick (either by practice or enforced by a timer (I'm looking at you Carson)).

Seriously though. The letters are so good, no matter what word I choose, I think there must be a better one.

The deadline is Friday, 10 am, Alaska time zone.
Also, I don't read the PMs until that time (unless the subject directs me otherwise) so feel free to submit and then edit (messages are editable until the recipient opens them). I won't know it happened!

That's one joaf timezone you got there. (If I use it enough, maybe I can get it into the dictionary before the deadline Revenge most foul! )

I have some quick question regarding scoring.
If you place a tile on a bonus square, thus making two words, is the bonus square used for both words when calculating the score?
Also, while I'm at it, if a word spans two bonus squares, which one is used first?

I'd be happy just convincing the dictionary of an alternate spelling of JOVIEL.

For your questions:

Yes, if you place the tile on a bonus, that bonus is applied in both directions if the letter is used in two words at once. When you are using a letter that is already on the board, the bonus is not applied. That is, bonuses are applied only for the person who placed the tile.

2X or 3X letter bonuses are applied before 2X or 3X word bonuses. So if a Z is on a 2X letter and the word stretches to a 2X word, you get 60 points just for the Z.

Dark blue = 3x letter score, light blue = 2x letter score
Red= 3x word score, pink= 2x word score

Current letters:
N 1 N 1 E 1 Q 10 L 1 V 4 I 1

Ick! the Q is here.
JET was the highest scoring word.
This is a really tough set of letters on a reasonable closed board. I predict a high score of about 25.
Also, the bonuses count only when you play the letter, but they can count in both directions. This is why JET (also JO and ER) is worth so much more than JOINT. The J ends up with four times its normal score!
For the plays of mathgrant and Jack_Ian, count both OPT and TIE (1+3+1, 1+1+1), double both ((5+3) *2), then count ANI (3) and FEE (6) for a total 8*2 + 3 + 6 = 25

21 Zag-- JOINT (using O in HUMOR)
38 Cordelia—JET (on the board)
25 Jack_Ian—TEN (also OPT, ANE, FEE)
38 Amb-- JET (on the board)
21 Lexprod—JILT (also LOT and TAN)
25 mathgrant TIE (also OPT, ANI and FEE)

Code:

               ROUND
               1  -  2  -  3 -  4 -  5 - TOTAL
Zag         |  28 |  72 | 48 | 20 | 21 | 189

LE isn't a word, but EL is :D
Seriously, I'm not even sure what some of the words mean that I use; half are from needing to memorize the stupid 2-letter words, and the other half of the weird ones are from playing gobs of Word Racer on yahoo games.

That said, I played JET knowing that I would later use it for JETE if possible (and I know that one: it's a ballet move).

I'm loving the current rack of tiles...good thing we have all those consonants, otherwise there'd be that triple-word getting in on the action this round.
