Nominations closed. Oddly enough there are 128 unique entries, so instead of doing a 64 bracket as planned, I'm going to do a modified 128 bracket, where 4 at a time we'll put the species against each other, two winners per poll. That will give us the 32 and from then on it'll be mano a whatever-o.

The nominees that got multiple nods will be seeded, randomly by number of nods. Most of it will be a bloody free-for-all, I expect many "upsets" as it were.

I will have to re-do my little google spreadsheet bracket, so I plan on not starting until Feb. 1st. I think 8 polls at a time is about the max I'd like to do, so with one poll a week, that's the entire first round in Feb, then I'll slow to 4 polls a week in round two which will take up March, and then stick to 4 polls a week to get through the sweet sixteen, elite eight, and final four all in April, and crown our champion when May begins.

Is this too slow? I felt like opening ALL polls for a round simultaneously may be a bit hectic and make people lose track of if they've voted yet.

Eh? You're saying that half of them move on. That sounds like 64 to me.

Er, yes. That's what I meant. Bah. And then I had the two winners go up against each other next...but on second thought that seems a bit redundant. 4 down to one would probably be better.

If I were you, I'd list the species first, so they can be crosschecked. Many fictional species tend to have several different names, which might not be readily apparent on a quick look through.

Here's the list http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=taWEE9oPNd4WOHWT1rtjCSw&single=true&gid=0&output=html

If anyone wants to double check. There are some that are similar, like the many bigfoot-like species, but different regions and base species differentiates them in my eyes. Plus the four-species at a time first round should weed out any "weak" entries efficiently.

You have only Amb mentioning hobbits, but I did also. I don't know if that matters to your seeding.

Works for me, prevents some vote splitting and gets us a cool species added. I'll set up the polls and bracket tonight. While watching Coupling.
