Greedy Scrabble
While Speed Scrabble continues to slowly play along, I came up with the idea of Greedy Scrabble. One complaint players could have about Speed Scrabble is that is favors the people who happen to be on when I update. So this version gives no such bias.
The concept is simple: create the most number of points with the given letters. The winning word will be played onto the board. The player who came up with the word will then receive that many points. If more than one person tie, they will all get the full number of points. If the words are different, I will pick the word I like more.
This game does not encourage hand development at all.
Words should be sent by PM. I won't read the messages until making the board so that people can make edits if they find something better.
.
I hope to update every Friday.
There will be a board graphic next week.
No outside sources!
We start off with.......
ARUMEHO
(remember, there is a DLS five spaces to one side and you start with on a double word score)

Personally, I wouldn't want to play a tournament this way. There is no skill in managing your tiles- the only skill is finding the most possible points on a board from a hand.
Jack_Ian, Courk, and Zag are in this week. Any more? |

is there anyway you could post a point value guide and/or put the points next to each letter? I haven't memorized them all yet, sadly |

Really! I thought H was 3.

HUMOR -- Zag, Courk, Jack_Ian, lexprod
HAREM -- Jack_Ian, groza528, Amb
There were more HUMORs than HAREMs. Jack_Ian also tried "rheuma" which doesn't work.
Now that there is an actual board to play with, maybe there will only be one best word next round!
Note: it is important to locate your words. So PHASE going up/down with the S at the end of HUMOR is different than PHASE going right/left with the E below the M of HUMOR.
Scores
28 Zag, Courk, Jack_Ian, lexprod, groza528, Amb |

You should do some sort of Ladder system, otherwise people won't really get the opportunity to join midgame...they're already 28 points behind, and there are not very many ways to get that large of a differential between two players on a given word or even five or six successive ones.
As far as names for the game go, I believe in game terminology, the most accurate name would be Duplicate Scrabble, named after the Duplicate versions of card games. They're good for large tournaments. |

| I was going to make it so only the highest scoring word gets points; most players may get nothing as the highest scoring words are hard to find. |

| I think I will keep track of the total scores for everyone [instead of the greedy rules I originally planned]-- people who join late can feel good about themselves by having high round scores while their total is still lower. Players should still maximize their scores on every round, but being 1 point less than someone won't be as bad now. |

Scrabble could have increased fun if you had to make a story from the words.
My current story: Sally failed to see the humor of being hit with shrapnel. |

I like the the version that shows the "2L" etc.
I don't play enough scrabble to know what the coloured squares mean.
Just my €0.02 |

SHRAPNELS is not in TWL words but is in SOWPOWS. I am starting to question this dictionary... The only word that used all seven letters was DOWNLES...which means ???
SNOWED (Cordelia's placement) was the highest scoring word in the TWL dictionary.
I put on the triple word scores...(they were the easiest) and the rest may come at some point. |

How can you make SNOWED going across the top using the S from SHRAPNEL?
Doesn't that end up like this:
| Code: |
SNOWED
HUMOR
R
A
P
N
E
L |
meaning NU, OM, WO and DR need to be words? |

I'm a 2-letter queen, Courk! I think I decided that the plural of shrapnel was shrapnel, like water, sand, and other uncountables. Oh well :/
Yeah, the board now isn't nearly as fun :) |
