I thought there was a thread for cool technology, but I couldn't find it. Anyway, I started a new one because the alliteration appealed to me. Being nerds at heart (that is, those who follow this thread eagerly), we shall refer to the thread as "Triple G."

China's solution to traffic problems. Drive-thru buses.

The idea is, of course, ridiculously stupid. Oh, the accidents it would cause. But it is an original idea, which has value in and of itself.

This is a phenomenal idea. If I had money to invest, it would go here.

As awesome as it is, I just don't see it happening.

It SHOULD. But it probably won't.

I know that this is Zahariel's favorite futuristic (not-yet-existing) gadget. The phone tattoo.

However, it would be a lot more painful than they describe to install. Human skin is not just floating over the muscle like on a dog or a pig. You'd have to cut away the connective tissue to enable it to spread out. Also, you'd need to have a lot of small holes in the silicon sheet for the connective tissue to grow back through.

Naah! 3G is so last decade. But we could go for 5G, I guess.

That phone tattoo looks pretty neat. I heard about it on NPR when it first came out. They pointed out that if you use it to access websites, you'll be doing what millions of people do who don't have this innovation - touching yourself while online.

That would really suck when they release the newer, faster, better model a week after you get one implanted...

I really think mass transit systems are missing the boat on bicycles. Honestly, I'd prefer riding my bike most places if there was a better transit system that wasn't awkward for bikes.

UTA FrontRunner (our mass transit trains here in Utah) have some new cars that are very bike friendly... unfortunately, the "where" they go is limited.

A major drawback for bikes is the limitation to those who can ride them (no toddlers or very small children in tow, etc.). Also, here in the humid south, you can't get very far outside for eight or nine months of the years without really sweating, even if you're not pedaling. That being said, our buses have racks on the front that hold two bicycles, and they get a fair amount of use.

Ours do this as well, but it isn't as convenient as it could be I guess. I do agree with your other points, but that's true of all public transportation. Cars are just easier for a lot of things, but I know that I would ride my bike most places if public transportation was more accommodating than it currently is.

I can't justify a bus pass (they're about 162 a month for a full access one that includes trains) with the current system.

Though your point about weather is extremely valid. I can't, for example, ride my bike today because it's raining. Riding it in the Utah winters would be downright dangerous at times.

Le sigh. We are spoiled aren't we?

The real question is, how many feet per gallon does it get?

I was flying it around his house using his iPad 2.
It was pretty impressive and lots of fun.
