Honesty Quiz - September 2010 - People
No research is allowed after seeing the questions. They must be answered solely with the information currently in your head.
No internet, books or consulting other people...or 'accidentally' seeing information.
One point per correct answer with no penalty for incorrect or unanswered questions. If you don't know an answer, it's worth guessing. I will accept ONLY your first answer list (send to me via PM). Spelling accuracy is not required for person names. You may freely use pen, paper and simple (non-programmable) calculators.
No entry = no points.
Answers provided when entries close. Quizzes usually last for about 3 weeks until entries dry up. I shall warn players a few days before I provide answers. Please get your entry in before I publish the answers.
This month, the answers will be names of people.
Q1. Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, is married to which actress?
Q2. When Armstrong and Aldrin walked on the moon in 1969, who remained in orbit in the command ship?
Q3. "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" is a quote from which science fiction writer?
Q4. Name 4 of the 5 Marx Brothers (from films like Duck Soup, A Day at the Races etc)? Their nicknames/common names not their real names. The 5 include one brother who did not appear in any films.
Q5. Who wrote the novel "Neuromancer"?
Q6. What is the real name of singer Bob Dylan?
Q7. What is the name of the character played by Kiefer Sutherland in the TV series "24"?
Q8. Who is the CEO of BP, recently castigated over the Deepwater Horizon oil spill?
Q9. The SI unit of capacitance is named after which scientist/physicist?
Q10. Name either of the 2 founders of Google?
Good Luck. |

My problem is that I have the opposite of an eidetic memory. I can remember processes, connections, the way things fit together, but never details that are irrelevant to the functioning. My wife and I, when we have any long drive together, will often tell each other in detail the latest books we've read. She tells me hers, along with names and place names and all the details. When I tell mine, I have to refer to the characters as "the old guy" or "the main character's mother" and the like. Often even for the main characters. I can picture them clearly, but their names are gone.
Edit: Ooooh! Looking up the correct answers, I find that I was right on one of the ones that was something of a guess (the last Marx brother). That means I scored a 3, unless one of my total guesses got stupidly lucky.
Edit 2: Oh Snap! One more lucky guess, though it wasn't a blind guess. That's my last one that wasn't. |

| I'm awful with names. I'm usually the person who goes: "You know, the guy that Stalone played in that one movie in the jungle..." |

I'm with Zag on this one. A few weeks ago Mrs. Q and I were watching a clip from State Fair or something and we were trying to think of the name of the actress. All Mrs. Q could say was "You know, Liza Minnelli's mother," and the best I could do was Francis Gumm. I'm not even sure how I know that.
Anyway, it doesn't come into play this month, because I knew about 3, and I don't think I had any lucky guesses. |

Honesty Quiz - September 2010 - People
A real Marmite of a quiz this month. For those who don't know Marmite, it's a savoury spread with a strong taste that people either love or hate.
Numbers indicate the correct answers of the 12 entries.
Q1. Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, is married to which actress?
Gwyneth Paltrow (5). My favourite answer was Lana Turner.
Q2. When Armstrong and Aldrin walked on the moon in 1969, who remained in orbit in the command ship?
Michael Collins (6). Quite a few other astronauts were mentioned.
Q3. "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" is a quote from which science fiction writer?
Arthur C Clarke (11) with 1 vote for Isaac Asimov.
Q4. Name 4 of the 5 Marx Brothers (from films like Duck Soup, A Day at the Races etc)? Their nicknames/common names not their real names. The 5 include one brother who did not appear in any films.
Groucho, Chico, Harpo, Zeppo and Gummo (10)
Q5. Who wrote the novel "Neuromancer"?
William Gibson (5)
Q6. What is the real name of singer Bob Dylan?

Q7. What is the name of the character played by Kiefer Sutherland in the TV series "24"?
Jack Bauer (11)
Q8. Who is the CEO of BP, recently castigated over the Deepwater Horizon oil spill?
