This is a secret role game like Mafia, but without player elimination. Everyone stays in the game till the end.

NEW RULE

You may post votes yes or no, to keep a running count if you like, so you know where people stand, but your vote is not official until you message me.
Once you've PMd me you're locked in, no changing.

NEW RULE

The Resistance is a game for 5 to 10 people. At the beginning of the game 2-4 people [Based on the number of players. For instance with 7 players, 3 are spies] are randomly chosen as spies who are working against the team. The spies are notified who the other spies are [But private communication is NOT allowed]. One player is randomly chosen as the leader to start the game.

The game is a "best of five" and is won by whichever side gets to 3 points first. Each round has 3 phases:

1. The leader chooses "Mission specialists" to attempt the current mission. [Exact number depends on number of players and current round. For instance with 7 players the number = 2, 3, 3, 4, 4].
He can choose any player including himself.

2. The players discuss the choices and a vote is called. If a majority agree, move to phase 3. If not, leadership passes and we return to phase 1. Note: If a consensus is not reach for 5 consecutive votes, the spies immediately win the game.

3. Once the "Mission specialists" are chosen, each sends a private message to me of either Pass or Fail. Resistance must send Pass, Spies may choose either pass or fail.
If all choose pass, the resistance wins the round and scores a point. If any choose fail, the spies win the round and score a point.

Leadership then passes and the next round begins.

Any interest?

Looks interesting enough to me.

One question though: Is it publicly announced who wins the round?

It's a discussion, role deduction, bluffing game akin to mafia.

The only difference is everyone stays in till the end.

upon rereading the rules, I think I understand it better. I was thrown off by the word "mission" because I originally assumed it was some unspecified in-game task that a team would have to do.

I'll play.
I support making the missions more interesting.
Round one: Plant explosives on the bridge, two brave soul required!
Round two: Steal a keg, three mostly sober people needed.
Round three: Assassinate dethwing, three drunken sailors needed.
Round four: Rob the Quick-E-Mart, four hooligans required.
Round five: change a lightbulb, four hundred GLers needed.

The 7 player distribution seems to favor the spies. If the town misses any of the first three missions, they'll have to be perfect on one of the last two.

Not that it matters, as there will be at least 8 players. (/in)

We played with 7 three times, and the resistance won all 3 games.

Admittedly that was with the "gathering storm" expansion so that might have something to do with it.

Plus, round 4 requires a double fail with 7+.

Spies have been notified, order has been randomized, and we are ready to roll.

With 9 players, there are 3 spies, and the group distribution is as follows:

Round 1 : 3
Round 2 : 4
Round 3 : 4
Round 4: 5*
Round 5: 5

Round 4 [and only round 4] requires a double fail for the spies to win the round.

1. Undercover Monk
2. MatthewV
3. Wordcross
4. Chaz
5. Zag
6. ralphmerridew
7. Sentran
8. Poisonium
9. Bgg1996

I doubt that it really matters if we toss out votes now, but I thought the leader was supposed to choose a posse and then we get to vote on whether to approve the choices.

So for round 1 it seems we don't have much to go on. If the leader picks himself, then it could be because he's a spy and wants to sabotage the pass/fail, or it could be because he's not and knows that's 1/3 closer to a pass. Or if he doesn't pick himself... I'm not sure why he wouldn't. It doesn't make much sense from either side.

And spies can vote pass, so even if we end up with a pass night it might just be a spy pretending. But with only 5 rounds max, giving up a round for the sake of seeming normal would only be beneficial if the spies are up 2 nil.

Should be interesting.

I submit a team of Poisonium, Chaz, and bgg1996. For a particular reason that saying would eliminate the chance of it working.

Honestly the best team we could put together for round 1 would be three spies cause then it would cause a prisoners dilemma situation in which we could get all 3 spies to tip their hand.

I don't see any good reason to argue against that, so I'll vote yes.

However, I had suspected that any non-spy would always appoint himself to whatever committee he created, in order to improve its chance of success. This gives me a certain suspicion of UM, but I don't really have any idea.

Also, my last post *should* absolve me to any other town players, but it would only work for the first person who says it.

Yes, yes, a spy could "guess" that when Dethy said "Spies have been notified, order has been randomized, and we are ready to roll." he was implying that rebels didn't get any message, but it would be quite a risk for me to assume that was the case.

I did not get a message, so I am probably not a spy (for what it's worth.) Ecstatic Happiness

Personally, I think we should start over before this game even begins because of the "spies got a message, if you didn't you aren't a spy". The GL learned long ago in mafia that it is important to send a role to everyone. It treats everyone the same.

Now, I personally think the people who posted soon after the game started are spies. They might be obsessive watchers of VG... or they might have gotten a message and then checked.

I'm with MattV. Let's start over.

I saw that Chaz had posted, and I still hadn't received a role PM so I didn't post -- I figured it was in process, and I probably would have posted if I had one. Realizing now that it means Chaz is a spy, I think that is unfair info and we should start again.

It does not.

The spy message could have said
"Dear Chaz,
You are a spy.
So are bgg1996 and poisonium.

P. S. The resistance did not get any messages role PMs. Use this to your advantage to make them think you are a part of the resistance.
"

Also, they might not have sent any role PMs out yet. In order to know for sure that they did, you must be a spy.

That is correct. But if you fail to agree to a group 5 times, the spies immediately win. And not the round. The game.

I'm going to assume the monk votes yes for his own plan:

Round 1: Poisonium, Chaz, and bgg1996
Yes: Monk, Zag, Chaz, MatthewV, Bgg1996

That's a majority, the motion passes.

Poisonium, Chaz, and bgg1996
---Send me a private message of either PASS or FAIL.

Even though I can assume resistance members auto send pass, I still want everyone to submit, to protect anonymity.
