Background: The players assume the role of commanders in an alien assault on humanity. Their technology is far more advanced than human technology, and the battle is never much of a fight, however, the aliens compete with each other to kill the humans first. They compete to such an extreme degree, that they will even hide war plans from each other.
Rules: The goal of the game is to destroy more cities and kill more humans than the other players. There are 27 in total.
Each player's army starts deployed in only one city (this is determined by the single submission – more on that later).
When the armies have been deployed, turns are automatically resolved. In a turn, every player conquers every city connected by a red line (see map) to one of the cities they have troops in. Once a city is conquered, an army is deployed of the conquering player in the city. The game may last multiple turns.
Example: Jonathan starts in Los Angeles. In the first turn he conquers Chicago and Mexico City. The second turn he conquers Bogotá and New York. The third turn he conquers Lima and Rio de Janeiro.
Cities already held by other players may not be conquered. If two players are able to conquer the same city in the same turn, they will both take it. Cities conquered in this fashion cannot be used to conquer further on.
Example: Jonathan starts in Los Angeles and Amy starts in New York. In the first turn, they both conquer Chicago and Mexico City. However, neither can conquer Bogotá in the following turn, as they shared the conquest of Mexico City.
Assignment:
Send by private message to me.
The message should contain a list of cities by priority. As far as possible, you will be assigned to the city you wished for.
Example:
1. London
2. Tokyo
3. Beijing
4. Dhaka
5. Jakarta
6. Manila
7. Rio de Janeiro
8. Cairo
9. Lagos
10. Moscow
You can make it any length you wish, but from some (limited) testing, I suspect that at least 8 is a good idea. If you fail to get assigned to any city, you will be instead by assigned to an off-world slave mining facility.
Most of the time, people will be assigned to their first priority. However, sometimes, 2 or more players may have an identical first priority. In that case, no one gets deployed in that city. The lists will then move on to second priority. The army will be deployed on the second priority if:
1. It's not already occupied.
2. No other players has it as their second priority (and so on, and so forth).
3. It has not been blocked by multiple players having it as their first (or second or third etc. )priority.
The same rules apply for all priorities, no matter how long down the list.
When a player gets their army deployed in a city, the rest of the list is ignored.
Scoring:
Every city conquered by the player, including the starting city, gives 1 point.
Every city conquered by multiple players gives 1 point to each player.
Any player who conquers the entirety of North America (see list of cities) gets 1 point.
Any player who conquers the entirety of South America (see list of cities) gets 1 point.
Any player who conquers the entirety of Africa (see list of cities) gets 1 point.
Any player who conquers the entirety of Europe (see list of cities) gets 1 point.
Note: For the points related to conquering entire continents, shared conquests also count.
Tiebreaker: In case of a tie at points, the player with the most cities conquered wins. If there is still a tie, the player with the most cities conquered alone wins.
Map:
List of cities:
North America:
Los Angeles
Chicago
New York
Mexico City
South America:
Bogotá
Lima
Buenos Aires
Rio de Janeiro
Africa:
Lagos
Kinshasa
Cairo
Europe:
London
Paris
Moscow
Istanbul
Asia:
Tehran
Karachi
Delhi
Mumbai
Dhaka
Bangkok
Jakarta
Manila
Hong Kong
Shanghai
Beijing
Tokyo
I'd prefer 8-10 players for this, but both more and less can do, though this affects strategy.
Players from whom I have received submissions:
1. Poisonium
2. MatthewV
3. Quailman
4. Lexprod
5. Zag
6. Chuck
7. Jack_Ian
8. Chaz
9. Raekuul
10.
And as for the city names not being on the map... Hey, if you can't put those on the map, it's about time you learned it _________________ I tried apt-get install lifebut it only returned E: Couldn't find package life

Alaska is safe!
Personally, I think we should get 1 point for every person we killed. |

I picked all the largest cities marked in an atlas from 2006 - the ones I skipped were mainly for space reasons or to avoid putting too many in Asia.
Outside of Asia, I only skipped San Francisco, Philadelphia, Santiago, São Paulo and St. Petersburg. I'm very sorry, but Auckland and Anchorage really aren't major cities.
Also, now the main post contains a list of people who have send in yet at the very bottom. I'm counting on 9 players, if nothing else I should be able to get a few friends of mine to play it. _________________ I tried apt-get install lifebut it only returned E: Couldn't find package life |

As it happens, no one selected the same prefered starting position.
The selections were as follows:
Poisonium: Hong Kong - Dark Blue
MatthewV: Lagos - Brown
Quailman: Bangkok - Yellow
Lexprod: London - Dark Green
Zag: Delhi - Purple
Raekuul: Istanbul - Grey
Chuck: Tokyo - Black
Jack_Ian: Cairo - Light Blue
Chaz: Buenos Aires - Light Green
Here's a map that's hopefully not too confusing:
Multiple dots around the same city marks that they killed that city in cooperation. (sligth error on the map in Dhaka, sorry Q. You will still get your points)
Here's points for cities conquered alone:
8 pts. - Chaz
5 pts. - Quailman, Zag
4 pts. - Poisonium, MatthewV, Raekuul, Jack_Ian
3 pts. - Lexprod, Chuck
And with tiebreakers and bonus points added:
1. Chaz 10 points
2. Quailman 5 points
3. Zag 5 points
7. Poisonium 4 points
7. MatthewV 4 points
7. Raekuul 4 points
7. Jack_Ian 4 points
8. Chuck 3 points
9. Lexprod 3 points
And an alternate scoreboard for people killed (shared cities are divided evenly between participants).
94,39 million - Chaz
52,70 million - Chuck
39,35 million - Quailman
38,36 million - Zag
23,75 million - MatthewV
23,36 million - Poisonium
22,80 million - Jack_Ian
21,18 million - Raekuul
16,32 million - Lexprod

Bah! Buenos Aires was my second choice.
What would have been even better is if Rio and Lima had been taken (and nobody in North America) so that an area would survive. |

An area did survive. Look to Africa. Disregard that, I can't see brown-on-red.
Also, I don't mind being stuck in Istanbul. I think I'll rename it again. That way, you can't go back to Istanbul...
Nah, I won't rename it. It'd break the meter. |

I incorrectly assumed that there would be conflicts at (what I considered to be) key nodes and tried instead to locate my choices beside them, hoping to capture them and begin my conquest Muhahaha.
Shame the rest of you didn't play your part in my plan.
I wonder how things would have turned out if everyone was forced to begin with their second choice, or if everybody's first choice was blocked.
My first 10 choices were:
01. Cairo
02. Tehran
03. Karachi
04. Delhi
05. Dhaka
06. Mexico City
07. Mumbai
08. Lagos
09. Kinshasa
10. Paris |
