I've been hoping someone would start another one of these soon. Since no one did, I decided to start my own! Thought this might be interesting to do after Christmas, when pointless junk seems to abound.
What better way to kick off the new year than by exchanging random junk lying around your house for random junk lying around someone else's house?
If interested, PM me your mailing address. That is, your physical mailing address--we're dealing in meatworld here, folks. Soon after the new year arrives, I will assign you randomly to another person; you'll send this person whatever trinkets/curiosities/"white elephants" you like. Be sure to include your GL screen name somewhere! You won't know who has you until you receive your package.
I'll leave it up to everyone to decide whether to announce their participation here or not. Might be more fun if no one knows who's all involved _________________ "I have an everyday religion that works for me: love yourself first, and everything else falls into line." --Lucille Ball |

I'm in. Just remember that I'm in Iraq, so not so much junk lying around, but I will do what I can. Also, I can't accept any alcohol, porn, weapons, drug paraphernalia, etc. (or anything that could be interpreted as some form of the above.)
Heh.

The UAF post office does not accept debit/credit cards. On my way there, I saw a dime and stopped to pick it up. The total for mailing my package ended in 0.09
Some lucky person should get a package in about a month. |

Just in case my receiver missed it...
I was only kidding when I said (at least to the laws I believe in.) Everything is legal, a lot of it is cuddly. Some of it is vintage; some of it is even antique.
I don't want to hear any excuses about "not having a computer", since I sent a booting/working one in the box. _________________ The enemy's base is down. |

OK, I got Chaz's package.
WTF is some of this stuff? I don't have it in front of me, but ... well, I'll have to have it in front of me to post a description of what it is that I don't know what it is.
The can of sardines, strangely, was rather appropriate, as I've been on a bit of a sardine kick lately (low carb, etc), even having ordered some via Amazon, and have amassed a variety that I was planning on doing a side by side taste test / comparison. There really is quite a variety available. The can sent was not in my existing collection.
Will post more on this later.
And yes, I was a bit worried about the legailty thing. |

Never fear, never fear. I would never do something to cause someone else problems. Well... unless it was a personal vendetta, and even then you'd have to mess up pretty bad.
I have a list of everything (mostly) that I sent to you. Do you want me to post it, or do you want to try to guess what all of it was first? _________________ The enemy's base is down. |

Also, regarding the low-carb diet thing. I went through that (with my father after he had Gastric Bypass surgery.) I ate the same meals as he did. I went to all his workout sessions, etc. Got supporter of the year too.
One of my favorite snacks was Pork Rinds with Egg Salad as a dip. It's pretty damn good. _________________ The enemy's base is down. |

Well, here's the list of things I sent to Extro.
- Audiobook - On Bullshit - I have no idea where this came from, or even whether or not I've listened to it. I found it in an old box of crap.
- HP Power Supply - Goes with the HP "computer."
- Flying, Screaming, Woot Monkey - Put your fingers in the pockets of his hands, pull back on his tail, and launch him like a sling shot. Be careful of glass objects.
- Digitial Picture Alarm Clock - with matching usb cable.
- Cedar Magic Ball Deodorizers - To deodorize your balls I guess...
- The Eleventh Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver Box - That's right, just the box. Sorry sucka.
- Vintage Metal Ice-Cube Tray - I've never used it, but I imagine it's in working order; you should try it!
- USB power squid (charges like ten different cellphones) - I'm certain this came from w00t.
- Cigarette Case - From my Joe Cool smoking days.
- Coal Bag (with Sardines, Hawaiian Punch Packets, and three of each Scooby, Sunkist and Spidey fruit-snacks) - This bag was going to be used in my proposal, until something better came along. The foods are just some of my absolute favorite things.
- Sponge Bob Hair Gel - I have no idea... found it in my car... I assume I bought it for my kid.
- Oyster with a Pearl - I'm not sure where this came from, but I found it in my room and thought I'd pass it along.
- Google G3 wall charger - I'm certain this was in a w00t Bag of Crap.
- iRock FM Adapter - Play your headphone through your stereo in your car... '90's style.
- Targus iLock - It's supposed to secure an iPod/iPhone/iPad, but I think a good hard yank would undo the security of it. I never actually used it.
- Laptop Modem and WiFi card. The WiFi card is the bigger of the two, both are pretty useless. (these are the random circuit board looking things in your box.
- Pit Game - I won this at a family reunion... a family reunion that Groza was at actually, so it was kind of a mini-GL-convention.
- HP "Computer" - it will boot up and load Windows XPe. The Administrator password is "extro", but you'll have to look up how to use ewfmgr. I was planning to hook it up to a flat screen TV and show pictures on it, but decided to get something more powerful that could display videos as well.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms940853(v=winembedded.5).aspx
- Picross Nintendo DS game. I'm told it's a lot of fun, but I've never played it; I tried to find my old DS to send you as well, but it must be in storage. You can probably get one used for like twenty bucks.
- Clappy Hand - From my Kid.
- One Dollar Chip from Luxor in Las Vegas Nevada - This was from the GL Vegas Convention. Huey gave it to me as he was leaving. =D It's the most prized possesion I've ever given away as a present; hands down. I almost didn't send it. Take good care of it.

Well, that's about it. Hope you enjoy it all.
Oh... DEFINITELY try the Hawaiian Punch packets. They have almost no carbs, and they are delicious.
Also, a cup of hot broth with a hard boiled egg broken up in it is quite yummy, and zero carbs. _________________ The enemy's base is down.

Seriously though, the one dollar chip to Luxor is the "prize" in the box. I've had it for about five years. It seems silly, but that chip got me through a lot of hard times. _________________ The enemy's base is down. |

The computer doesn't have any type of disc drive.
I guess, from a technical stand point, I could have included a usb drive with a linux distro, but the internal HDD is only 256 meg, so it would have been an even crappier version of linux.
(although, in principal, I agree with your logic.) _________________ The enemy's base is down. |

sent mine yesterday. I threw in a fair bit of random stuff, including a few actual white elephant gifts that I had from others. Didn't send nearly as much stuff as Chaz though.
Hopefully my recipient will enjoy the gift anyway. |

I think it's more about the "getting" than the "someting."
I just went around my room and boxed up some stuff I don't use anymore.

When I first saw the monkey, I thought cool, one of my kids will enjoy it. Then when I read about how it launches, I thought even cooler.
So last night I had to stay up and get some work done. Since I was gonna be up, my two littlest girls took advantage and slept in bed with the wife. I got up to get some coffee around 2 AM, saw the monkey, looked in the bedroom and saw them all sleeping peacefully in the dark, and on a whim decided to try the launch feature for the first time, and launch it into the bed. Probably wouldn't wake anyone, I figured, and they'd wake up wondering where the monkey came from.
Just one thing. I didn't know that when the monkey is launched, it proceeds to howl maniacally for a short while. Well, maybe not maniacally, but it sure as hell sounds maniacal when surrounded by one adult and two children screaming in the dark at God knows what sort of hellish beast that has descended from the rafters to attack them in their sleep. I was pretty startled myself. |
