As the name suggests, I am trying out for the school play, The Wizard of Oz. I'm probably going to try out for the title character (the wizard of oz). I was wondering if anybody had any advice (hence the other half of the name). Well?

My old school did that one year, only it was this rap version. I was stage crew before i quit due to lack of organization.
Advice...hmm...If you forget your lines don't be afraid to adlib and don't worry about the people in the audience. If you know you're gonna adlib a certain part, make sure the other people in the scene know that. That's about it, I'm not an actress, but good luck, break a leg! |

| Good luck. If my school had ever performed The Wizard of Oz, I would have wanted to be a tree. You know, "Hey! Are you saying that my apples aren't what they're supposed to be?" |

| As for the audition, just treat it like a party game and have fun with it. Don't worry about "getting it right". Most of the time, auditioners just wanna see whether someone's into it or not, so just play around and goof off and have fun. If you get the part (or a part) my best advice is to learn the lines right away as soon as you can, so that you won't have to worry about them later on. Learn the like the pledge of allegiance so that you won't even have to think "what is my next line", your mouth will already know what to say. The way I usually memorize lines is just to keep repeating them and repeating them without inflection over and over again. It's good to do some sort of activity like running or shooting hoops while reciting the lines, that way you have something else to concentrate on (just like you will on stage) and it tests the fact that you REALLY know the lines. Another good way to learn them, is to speed through them as fast as you can with your scene partner(s). As for everything else, take it one step at a time. Theater, especially high school plays, is largely about getting to know the people around you and working with them. The fun of it is starting friendships and relationships. All of that shows on stage. |

| Are you guys doing the rap version? If you don't get cast, see if you can be spotlight. I did that once for this show the band was putting on and it was kinda fun, but I hope you get the part. |

Well, good news and bad news. the good news is I just ate lunch at like 4:00, so I'm not starving anymore. The bad news is that I got "fighting tree" and "additional winged monkey" in the play. Not even a winged monkey. An additional winged monkey. |

| That might mean that they saw your potential talent for a winged monkey so they wrote in a part. OK, that didn't help did it? I'm not full of advice right now, but at least you got something. |

Okay, but let's look at the fighting tree. I mean, come on CzarJ, the whole PLAY really comes down to the fighting tree. But let's pretend for a second, let's pretend for one second that the play ISN'T about the fighting tree. It's still a tree that fights. I mean, pardon my swiss, but that's pretty damned SPECIAL tree. One that fights. Okay, back to the play, What's the story about? Huh? The story is about a girl who wants to make sense of her misfit homelife, so she seeks out the wizard who will explain it all to her. And WHY is she a misfit? Because she loves the forest, but she lives on a farm. I'm serious, pay attention to the show. She was never meant to live on a Kansas farm, she was meant to dwell in a foresty type area, that's WHY the FIGHTING TREES are ANGRY at her. Because here's this girl who should have lived with them, but nooooo, she had to live on a faaaarm, yet she STILL has the GALL to pick their apples. Well, sorry lady but you should have lived with us in the first place. And the entire dream is telling her "shoulda lived in a forest, shoulda lived in a forest" and the FIGHTING TREES, an exlusive elite of which YOU have been chosen to portray, CzarJ, SYMBOLIZE that very wisdom which dorothy neglected and thus braught dorothy to this dilemma/dream. And if you think I'm crazy, YOU'RE RIGHT!! |

They cast my 6 foot 5 inch son as the Wicked Witch of the West on year. Made Dorothy look like a Munchkin.
And BraveHat, you think too much. It's the story of a young woman who is transported to a surreal world, where she kills someone and teams up with three strangers to kill again. And they don't tell you that when she grew up she kept choosing cowardly, brainless men who had no heart. |

And I think Murray means in the live performance, not in practice... |
