I started a mafia sign-up thread. It seems that's how you get your name on the queue. I'm not concerned about where I am on that list, but I want to be on it. I'm planning on running my game both here and on Scum, and I would really like one to be before the other so I can make improvements. Right now, the latter is a long way off, so there's no rush.

askbob, due to the limited number of players, we always just have a single game going. As ally said, we have a sign-up thread for running games (which I'll go update when I finish this note.) We just finished a game and we're getting ready to start another. It's not too late so sign up for that game if you'd like to play.

Generally, the forum regulars are reluctant to sign up for a game moderated by someone new. It's nothing against you, but it's just so common that new people disappear before completing what they started. We are very glad to have new players, and once you've played a couple of games here, we'll be glad to play in yours. But there are already three on the list ahead of you, anyway, so you might as well play in those. Then, by the time your turn comes up, you won't be a new face anymore.

My game is just starting (Secret Theme mafia), and it is not too late to sign up, since I haven't sent out roles, yet.

Hmmm. I'm really not interested in playing in more than one game at a time, and I think that there are quite a few people who feel the same way. But I do agree that we could get a second game started once more than a few people have been knocked out. That is, have staggered starts rather than simultaneous ones.

The people who can't join a second game because they are still alive in the first can be alternates in the second, and there shouldn't be as long to wait, anyway.

So I'm on board with the idea of some overlap.

As a new player, one game at a time is more than enough for me. With the long waits between big games, could not a smaller game be started in between the larger games? Some overlap at either end shouldn't be a problem for most players.

Smaller games with fewer players and tighter deadlines might be able to be played out before another big game starts.

How many active mafia players are there here? Perhaps if we count who wants to play then we will have a better idea of what can be achieved.

normally If i'm not in a game, I do mod small games. I may do that depending on my schedule.

Perhaps in the sign-ups, mods can list something as a "small game," which I'll arbitrarily call 10 players or fewer, and those can be interspersed with the larger games as soon as enough interested people are knocked out.

Well, do you guys want me to start my game? It's light on the PRs and is heavily deadline restricted. Only five of the players on my list are still playing in Secret Theme.

Any game I'm signed up for here I will play even if it is during the same time as another game I'm playing here wherein I'd be alive in both.

Anyway, people should indicate whether or not they'd be okay with an early start or not when signing up. Perhaps game moderators should shoot to, during signups, indicate whether they want their game to start during another game or not.

The LAST thing we want is for people who only play in 1 game at a time to be alienated out of games that they really want to play for X reason because the players want to start early. Although the crowd here seems to be mature enough to respect others and I'm sure wouldn't mind waiting if a few people who signed up weren't intending to dual-play games.

So: indicate whether you will dual-play games in signature/profile/make common knowledge, and have games indicate whether they'd be willing/not willing to start early. The moderator having to make decisions to screen people who aren't is worrisome though.

@people who play 1 game at a time (which I"m guessing is possibly the majority) would you feel alienated if you were in a game and couldn't participate in another because it was starting early?

I think we have enough interest to start running the next game as the first one gets to close to finish. That will allow games to run quicker and if this succeddes perhaps we begin running small vanilla games for those who die early.

I wouldnt mind running a little mini game, max 12 people but probably smaller.

Edit that: If there are 12 people around, I have a mini themed game pretty much ready to go. I can start the sign ups whenever, so will just wait for an appropriate gap.

It may be practical to just have a second game queue that fills of just people who are willing to run in two games at once. It will be the mods decision which queue to come out of (depending on the current games' gamestate, player demand, mods' availability).

Robomafia is coming! 12 player. Planning now. Though maybe I should wait till after XMas to stop it stalling....

Roles will be based on Real and FIctional Androids, Robots, Cyborgs and Machines. They will be from a mix of well known and possibly obscure places.

If we run 2 games at the same time, then priority for the second game should go to those not involved in the first game...otherwise we'll just have 2 games with a lot of the same people playing and lots of other players waiting on the sidelines...

I'm in no rush to start mine anyway. Christmas is just over a month away, and it has the tendency to kill games due to people being unavailable to play. Id be more inclined to start in January.

If people know of robots they think I should include, feel free to post em here I won't read the thread between now and starting just to be fair haha.
