I'm moving out of my parent's house and into an apartment on Saturday. I'll be off the interwebs until I can save up enough for a computer, which could be a while since I don't even have a job yet. If you would like to purchase one of my belongings for $650 dollars, please inquire by PM.

Some public libraries have Internet access. At my local library I could wait in line to get 15 minutes on a computer or reserve an hour on one by calling in advance.

Good luck and props on not being 40 and in your parent's basement. It's going to be rough but it will be harder alone (from experience). I hope you have a group of friends or belong to a community group. With good friends and emotional support you can accomplish almost anything. If you don't I highly recommend finding one. Volunteer your time as a programmer or something at a local charity. Volunteering is deeply satisfying and you'll also meet plenty of good people.

Good luck to you.

I never understood why it was difficult for someone to move out of their parent's house. Maybe it was just expected in my family. Both my brothers didn't do as well as myself at college but I doubt they seriously considered moving back home.

You've made the right decision, now run with it. There's no point in looking back. You were wrapped in a cocoon and your eyes are about to be opened. It will be tough, but you will be the better for it. You will surprise yourself at how resourceful you can be and after a while you will wonder why you waited so long.
I suspect that we will hardly recognise you when you eventually return. You're going to have a different perspective on things after you've stood on your own two feet for a few months. Your priorities will change and your respect for those around you will be adjusted in light of your new experiences.
I hope the circumstances for you leaving are good ones. If not, then it's still the right decision to make. It's nice to have a support system though, so I would wholeheartedly endorse Samadhi's advice.
Good Luck!

This whole discussion directly impacts me, as well. Only last week my daughter and her husband moved out of our house, after living here for almost two years. It was done in a big huff as part of an argument, but I still think it is for the best. I had already given them June 1st as a deadline, with the understanding that I don't care if it means they are homeless. Even so, it aches, as a parent, to see your child struggle so, even if the struggles are somewhat of their own making.

Hey guys, just letting you know I'm still not even close to getting internet access. Didn't want you to stay awake at night in fear that I might return at any moment.

Home for Christmas is a good thing.
Bringing your laundry with you, not so good. Felicitous

By all means build up some fat reserves with some home-cooking, but remember to leave again or all your sacrifice will have been in vain.

Glad to hear from you. Merry Christmas.

(I'm European, so I'm totally allowed to mention Christmas without regard to any other celebrations that might occur at approximately the same time)
