bgg1996 Status: wearing Genuine imitation horsehair false beard
* Amb's AntiMatthewV Gun (96): Target, who is legally able to declare victory, must declare victory.
* 3iff's Get a Clue (100): The target is obliged to provide a clue (publicly) to their team name. The clue must be clear enough for the Mod to understand or the Mod may insist on a better clue. The target may not use another invention until the mod declares the clue satisfactory. The clue must be different to any previous clue given by any other player. (If the teamname was "Frog" then a clue of "Animal" would be sufficient)
* Scurra's Inception Deception (115): The target of this invention is transported to a Dreamworld. All players in the Dreamworld retain their previous invention queues, but they are collectively considered part of a separate game of Inventors running parallel to the Realworld game. Players return to the Real World if a) They are part of a successful victory claim, b) They are part of a successful defeat claim, or c) Any player or mod rolls a 1 with dice tags.

* bgg1996's Scrambler (56): Randomizes the order of the target player's invention queue.
* Amb's BiblebasherGun (35): Target's next invention must include a Bible verse in the name, and have a function derived from that verse; otherwise, the target must announce their own team publicly.
* ralphmerridew's Portable Lobachevsky Cable (44): Change the inventor of one device in any queue by the user to any player. Both device and new inventor are selected by the user; this may not result in one queue having two inventions from the same inventor.
* MatthewV's SPAMALOT (47): If the user uses SPAMALOT in a post with at least 200 words, the device will announce the name of a random player besides the user and (via mod PM) privately, and with 80% accuracy, tell the user whether or not the target is on the same team as the user.
* 3iff's Match Maker V.095 (43): With 80% accuracy, glows red if the user and the target are on the same team, and does nothing otherwise.

* bgg1996's Initinalizer (123): Reveals (publicly) the first letter of the target player's team name if the target player is on the same team as you. Reveals (publicly) the last letter of the target player's team name if the target player is not on the same team as you. It is not revealed whether or not the target player is on the same team as you.

It is not revealed whether or not the target player is on the same team as you.

The game has now begun! You should each have received a PM containing your team name from either myself or mathgrant. As soon as you know what team you're on, start inventing!
Please post new inventions in the following format for ease
Recipient: Person to whom you are delivering this invention
Name: Name of Invention
Description: Description of Invention Effects
Please also refrain from using inventions until they have been checked by a mod as we might tweak them.
Everyone will secretly be divided into two or more teams. Each player will know what team *e is on, but nobody will know which team anybody else is on, at the start. You may discuss with one another PUBLICLY, but nobody is obligated to tell the truth about in-game elements except for the moderator(s).
Invent an item that will affect some element of gameplay, such as revealing someone's team to the user. The trick is, you don't get to use your own invention. You give it to some other player whose team you theoretically don't know. This will limit incentive for unbalancing inventions, but in the interest of fairness there are a few more caveats. NOTE: These rules are not set in stone. They are guidelines as to what sort of invention is likely to be disallowed.
1. An invention may directly affect only the user, one other player that is either of the user's choice or random, both, or neither. It may not affect players that the user does not choose, nor may it affect two or more players besides the user.
2. An invention may not permanently or indefinitely render anyone incapable of playing. Temporary blocking is okay, but for now, I'm going to impose an arbitrary limit of 24 hours, and the same player may not be blocked again for another 48 hours after that.
3. Any information that is exchanged by an invention will be done so via PM unless otherwise specified.
4. The invention must be completely described via the initial post in the thread; no hidden features.
5. A player will always know what their own team name is even if an invention changes it.
6. The moderator(s) reserve the right to disallow or alter inventions. We'll try to contact you and discuss reworks before altering.
Inventions may only be used once and then are discarded. You may also choose not to use an invention that has been given to you (this is a built-in failsafe and cannot be affected by inventions). You may only possess one invention at a time from a single inventor, and you must use or discard inventions in the order they are received. Inventions take effect in the order in which they are used.
The object of the game is to identify your team name and all members on your team, but you may NOT declare victory unless you have an invention that allows you to do so. Exception: if you believe that all remaining players are on your team, you may claim victory without an invention. Similarly, you may declare DEFEAT for another team by listing *their* team name and all of the members on their team, if you have an invention that permits you to do so. Doing so will eliminate that team. Declaring victory or defeat incorrectly will have no effect, but if you're wrong you may not try again until some other player has done so.
The above two inventions are the only exceptions to rules 1 and 2. _________________ My logic puzzle blog

| The way it worked in the previous game, there were no real turns. You were limited by the rule that states you can only have one invention from each player at a time, thus players who were more active were capable of using (and making) more devices, thereby allowing them a greater influence on the game. |

I had no memory of the original game (probably because it moved a little too fast for me) although I still think I had one really good pun in there.
But I'm willing to give this another go. _________________

Just so you know, all discussion of this game, excluding discussion between the two moderators, is to be done publicly in this thread, and not via PM. This includes both player-to-player discussion and player-to-mod discussion.

Is it possible to invent something that means a player can have more than one item from an inventor (by perhaps stealing an item from anothers list)? |
Only if the invention you use has a clause that allows the "inventor" to be someone other than the person who first introduced it. For example, Alice might give Bob the Intellectual Property Infringer, that takes a random invention from someone's unused queue, copies it, slaps Alice's name on it, and goes to the back of the user's queue. Thus, Charlie's invention of Sunglasses might be copied, giving Bob a Sunglasses invention that was "invented" by Alice, in addition to whatever Charlie might have already given Bob.
| 3iff wrote: |
| Is it also possible to 'say' steal an item I've invented and add it to my list? |
Only if someone else gives you an invention that lets you steal, and you don't already have one of your own inventions in your unused queue.
| 3iff wrote: |
| Finally (for now) is it possible to invent an item and give multiple other players an identical copy? |
This is always possible, as long as none of the other players already have an invention from you in their unused queue.
All three of these things occurred in the previous game. _________________ My logic puzzle blog |

But of course There's no reason you can't just give out a whole bunch of inventions, leave for three day, come back and use a whole bunch of inventions and give out a bunch of new ones. |

Another question.
Is it possible to have an invention that creates an effect on a player and that effect remains in force until something happens to 'use up' the effect?
For example (using an effect not relevant to this game).
Player A gets (and wears) a bulletproof jacket that can stop one shot. That jacket remains in force until someone shoots at Player A (or Player A decides to remove the jacket)?
Player A is then free to use other things while retaining the protection of the jacket... |

I would probably accept that, but I would suppose that sustained effects would prohibit that player from collecting other inventions from the player. Also keep in mind that the definition of "shot" and "bullet" would probably be a little bit fluid.
I would *not* accept an invention such as
Name: Dart of Atychiphobia
Description: User targets a player of their choice with the dart. Target player is so overcome with fear of failure that they cannot attempt to declare victory until someone else declares victory incorrectly, thus proving it is not fatal. |

That's fine.
I have a few ideas for sustained effect (one time use) but nothing that blocking. Besides, the mod has final say over powers...I'm just looking to think of things that wouldn't be vetoed.
I only used "shot" and "bullet" in the context of the example...I agree that they're both meaningless and too rigid for this game. |

This device will affect another user's invention capability. When the user of this device targets another inventor, the target will have to describe every feature of their next new invention in reverse word order, or it will have no effect. It's not terribly useful in the big scheme of things, but it might slow down their invention output long enough for another inventor to get in with something more useful. |
I'd say yes.

If your invention is deemed too powerful or out of the spirit of the game, we'll either zap it out of existence or nerf it. Either way, you won't be penalized beyond what the state of the game would be had you invented nothing at all. _________________ My logic puzzle blog |

It's more like purgatory. It's like hell, but temporary, and it has something good at the end. Also, like purgatory, many people will argue that the Bible makes no mention of this game. _________________ My logic puzzle blog |
