Many of us here have come to know one another in some sense or other. If you died today, how would anyone here know?

I ask because a close friend who I met through another message board recently died unexpectedly. If it had been a year ago, before we became good friends in real life, but were only friends online, I never would have known. As it was, I only found out because I suspected something wrong given her absence online and phone calls not returned, and started inquiring.

I've wondered if something serious happened to Loki, who disappeared quite abruptly with a couple of games going on.

If something happened to me, I'm sure that Zahariel (my son) would probably know to notify you folks. And my wife hears enough "Grey Labyrinth" stuff that she knows about it. I'm sure one of them would think of it.

Well, in my case, I suspect that within a week or so casinopete, extro, and Death Mage would all start to miss me. They'd probably start calling each other, worried sick over what might have happened to me. They'd then call Zag, who wouldn't know, but who would also confess his worry. DM would go to the local 7-11 and pick up a copy of the Fargo Forum, where he'd see the headline about the City of Fargo being in mourning and would publish the front page on the GL.
Then there would be a big party and everyone would fight over who gets my dog.

This is actually on my to-do list. I'm going to put together a "For When I've Kicked the Bucket" file, and make sure that my family knows where it is. Besides all my important financial/legal documents (including a will), it will include a list of people that I want to be informed of my death, along with instructions on how to reach them. This forum will definitely be on the list.

With everything else on my to-do list, I probably won't finish the file until several months from now. But I won't put it off any longer than I have to.

I figure if there's an unexplained stop in my constant spamming of facebook and twitter, wordcross will figure it out.

A friend from high school died two years ago. I'd lost touch with him, so I didn't know, and have been away from home so I missed the rumor mills. I found out because his facebook wall posts started to take the form of "I did X, you'd have loved it."

I hate to sound callous, because although I do care quite deeply about the GL as a community, I'm not sure I'd want to know that someone has died. To me, what's the difference between dying and deciding to stop wasting time here? Of course, I'll feel sad if I hear you've died, but it's hardly uncommon to lose members around here.

I'd say "I'd suddenly stop posting", but I did that once already. Reports of my death were slightly exaggerated. I hear the parties were epic though.

I miss him already.

All right, that's it, nobody else on this forum is allowed to die. Got that?

I agree. If someone else dies, we will resurrect their body then kill them for dying.

Hmm it could have gone a lot longer without the GL knowing, I reckon. I really don't know what possessed me to check out his facebook page.... But it's something I do from time to time when haven't heard from a person for a while and want to make sure they haven't died or worse, unfriended me! (...kidding...) Someone else would no doubt have noticed eventually, though.

I looked this up last night but didn't bump it.

I think he left some written instructions, or arranged to have some people emailed. We'll see.
