But Astra, there was a little girl ghost in the scholar section in my time. She said I had to do well for her sake.

(That was a little girl? The only thing I remembered about her was that she was female)

Astra shrugs. "You're definitely a Scholar, then, if she told you that. We can check Scholar as well, though I don't think we'll find it there."

I've been loosely following this from the beginning, and I'm impressed with the stamina of both of you. I'm curious, rae, how much of this are you making up as you go along, and how much was already planned?

The huge scene shifts (such as the one that is soon to come), the layout of the castle, the rift between the Zodiac and Astra, the fate of Odysseus, and the ultimate goal were in place from the first post; most of the details have been created as I go.

lol, I did a quick reread because I had forgotten which way we went first. These kinds of things are all about the story, and I never could put a book down. Heck there is a mystery to solve. Revenge most foul!

OK so lets check out humility and compassion and if we have no luck there we will head to the scholar wing.

Astra nods in agreement. "I'll check Humility, you check compassion. Pluto, you check Scholar just in case."

The three of you head north, back into the main chamber. Astra continues heading northwards, while Pluto heads west.

You enter the western door. The doorway seals shut behind you. You see a little girl trying to use a too-large-for-her staff to get a teddy bear from off of a high shelf. The girl appears to be about six years old. This scene strikes you as being incredibly familiar.

You knock it down with your spear. Your spear is irritated. The child is now too afraid of you to retrieve the bear.

The bear lands softly on the floor.

Astra's voice comes from behind you. "The door to the key chamber will close automatically once you go into the hallway, whether you go in there or not." She looks to the little one. "Jessica, sweetie, how long have you been up here?"

Jessica tries not to look at Astra. "Umm... I dunno. I came up here because Linda said she had a new storybook for me, then I remembered that there was a teddy bear in here." Jessica turns to you. "Will you come back, Sam?"

Astra, I have to tell you I have a bad feeling about this. When I first met this young lady she was still a child. Things may go badly very quickly around here. I know it is time to send me back to my time and place, but even with your proficiency I would be wary.

Astra sighs. "What you have just told me is that Drachicar's corruption will follow the people of this castle, which means that what I foresaw was slightly in error. What I foresaw was that a small remnant of the Star Kingdom would survive, and be taken in by the other kingdoms. What this means is that they will all die from Drachicar's influence anyway."

The door ahead opens, and Pluto steps out with a copy of the Tauropedia. "Your Granddaughter will survive, as will the Zodiac. The Star Power will not be lost, Astra."

This does not cheer Astra any. "And what good does that do when a billion others will lose their lives? The arts, sciences, and magics of the Star Kingdom will be lost forever to mankind, the Star Orb-"

Pluto shushes Astra. "That knowledge is not for our guest, Astra. I... I know how you feel. The same questions you have for me, I asked of my mentor when she told me about what she did... what she will do at the end of the Silver Millenium." Pluto turns to you. "I know what you're thinking. The answer is no. You would erase yourself if you tried to change the big things."

I am not a big believer in coincidence. Why would I have come here and developed these unusual powers if not to affect change of some kind. With all the sides creating walls between their allies with secrets and distrust isn't an outsider what is needed?

"Because you aren't here to change things now, you're here to change things in your own time." Pluto says simply. "You needed certain bits of information that could only be found in this now. And the effects of your visit will be felt, though they will be small indeed. Haven't you ever heard of the most famous wyvern of the galaxy?"

Pluto thinks for a moment. "Oh, right, because you haven't returned to the adjusted timeline yet. Pull out your Tauropedia - I know you have one - and look up "Wyverns"."

Astra blinks. "Do we really have time for this? He still needs to go collect the Jupiter scroll, you know."

Astra nods. "True, with a Pluto around, time is considerably more relative than normal."

The Tauropedia has this to say on Wyverns. A Wyvern is a winged mammal, indigenous to Odysseus and Mars. Odyssean Wyverns are venemous, while Martian Wyverns are larger and stronger. Wyverns are generally carrion eaters in the wild, but they can be trained towards herbivorist behavior by a determined trainer. Wyverns went extinct in the wild with Lilandror's assault on Mars, though some martian wyverns are kept as pets by the dwarves of Mercury.

The most well-known wyvern of the Galaxy was the wyvern Ophiuchus, companion to the last Princess Astra of the Star Kingdom, and later of Tilerna the Time Priest. Not much is known for certain about this wyvern's origins - it was originally an ordinary raiding wyvern - but during one failed raid on the Star Kingdom, Ophiuchus suddenly and inexplicably changed sides in the middle of battle, killing the raider who had ridden in on it. Ophiuchus the Wyvern was the last creature to leave Odysseus during the Hatching, and was adopted by Tilerna the Time Priest soon thereafter.

Pluto taps her staff on the ground. "That wyvern did not survive this day until you came along. Tilerna told me many interesting stories of their adventures together."
