GL Collaborative Meta-Puzzle II

Our first attempt at this went semi-successfully, so I'd like to try it again. This time, I'd love to get the puzzle tight enough to present it as a GLP.

As with the first puzzle, we'll take volunteers for puzzle setters in this thread. I'll randomly assign them a solution via PM, and they will write a puzzle where the solution is that word.

I'm psyched. I think I've decided on a concept and I reckon I'll need some construction time.

What's the timeline here?

You have time. I'd like to make sure that puzzles are all high quality and are all tightly tested, and I realize that will take time.

At this point, I won't constrain you with a time limit. We'll take the time we need to get everything rock solid.

I have a 20 word meta together, but I'd like to find our official test-solver first. Once they solve the meta, assuming all goes well, I can assign words to those who have volunteered.

Well, I have a puzzle theme that I'd like to try. It seems much tighter than my first dismal effort and should fit reasonably well with the other puzzles that appeared in puzzle one.

Test solver: I doubt that I'm good enough to do that on my own (I like to wander down dead ends...) but if there's no-one else then I'll take a step forward...or I'd be happy to assist someone else should that be necessary.

For now, I've sent one possible meta to Thok for review. I have several options ready, so hopefully one of them will pass the test.

I am willing to write a puzzle for this, although I tend to prefer writing to an absurd constraint than being giving free-rein (which is probably why I like writing metapuzzles more than the actual puzzles!) But I'm sure it will be fine.

There's still room. Once I distribute the solutions, I'll probably give a deadline of approximately 2 months just to give those who are procrastinators (like myself) some impetus.

Thok is still working on the meta. Hopefully he'll have it solved soon, and I can get your assigned solutions out to you.

If any of our other test solvers also wants a crack at it, let me know. Be advised, it takes you out of the running for solving any of the puzzles once we publish the meta.

We're now up to 14 volunteers, so there is still room for one or two more.

So, to all our puzzle setters, this sets a high standard for our puzzles. They each need to be worthy of the GL front page. I'm sure we'll all be up to the challenge.

As an update, 3iff has successfully solved the meta I provided. He sent me the correct solution last night. I'll PM with him today to get any feedback / constructive criticism needed to finalize it.

OK, I think we are at a point where we can begin handing out the assigned words. 3iff has successfully solved the meta, with just a minor push. We've made a small change to ensure it is completely solvable. Thok is still taking a look, but 3iff and I are confident that it all works.

The list of volunteers is below. Please post in this thread to let me know that you are ready to receive your word. I will send it to you via PM.

If you are no longer interested in contributing a puzzle, please let me know as well.

We ended up with a 14 puzzle meta, so we actually have one extra volunteer. If our last attempt is any indication, that will work out just fine as we used several substitutes.

Remember, the goal is to get these puzzles on to the front page of the GL, so they need to be high quality. Thok, 3iff and I will function as test solvers, and puzzles will likely need to be edited and reworked if they are not solvable.

Yes, I'll add a personal plug for 3iff's Quiz Olympiad. 3iff writes excellent quiz questions and runs the game superbly. I very rarely venture into VG, but 3iff's quiz games are worth it.

MNO, I quite liked your "In the Middle" puzzle... There were a couple of small issues with it but that's the sort of thing we hope to iron out during the test phase.

My attempt at a puzzle in that first meta was a car-crash of immense proportions. I'm happy to exclude myself from puzzle writing...but if you really, really want to drop out, well...it's your call.
