A suggestion: A feature on the GL for users to "like" posts in threads for their content being either informative, humorous, insightful, inspirational or for lack of a better word: acceptable? A mechanic that has been the norm for most websites (like reddit, Facebook, Youtube, etc.) and a few forums as well.

It may be helpful for outlining to posters who a model poster might be and what a model post might look like.

Sound off!

I'm torn being "No.", "HELL NO!", and a detailed explanation about why this isn't a social media site trying to find ways to simplify the opinions of its hundreds of thousands users so that it can figure out how to make money off those opinions.

Do you know of anyone at the head trying to make a profit off the GL?

No. Which is why we don't need it.

We already have this feature. Posts worthy of note are usually responded to in a favorable manner.

It would give those who simply agree a simple method to consolidate their mutual approval with the poster. Rather than saying "durr...wut he said."

TGC is correct that such features would allow people to "agree" with a post but without adding a post of their own. Such features would allow passive users to contribute a tiny bit.

But the idea is resented because it breeds the feel of a popularity contest. While such additions are generally good for online forums I would be much happier keeping the GL a little old fashioned but more sincere place.

Also, I have no clue on how to elegantly add such things. There is nothing wrong with saying "I agree with Pablo" and saying then saying why. On a side note of good news, I sold my art piece titled "Pablo" today. Felicitous

I think the question should be how we would use it. Normally such things are used to filter good postings up to the top of a reading list, but that would not be of use here, since posts remain in chronological order.
If it's just a way to say ditto, then "+1" has been used quite often here for that purpose on the GL.

Occasionally someone wants to know how many people agree, how many disagree. Then they create a poll. But in a rational debate, how many people agree or disagree, like or don't like, isn't relevant. I think it would just dumb this place down to have "agree", "disagree" or "like", "no like" without any backing argument.
