I'm trying to setup a SWTOR account. When I go to establish a subscription, it tells me I need to input information for Address Line 1 even though I've already typed that part.

Is this a coding error of their website or something? I've emailed and called them, and they all claim it is a problem with billing. If it is what I suspect, what wording should I use to tell them they just need to fix a broken line of code?

By any chance, did your browser auto-complete that line? I've had problems on some sites where auto-complete put something in (as far as I could see), but it was seen as empty.

Try a different browser? (IE?)

No to auto-complete.

I thought you might be onto something with the browser, but no-go there too.

possible issues:

the auto complete( which has already brought up)

You're putting too much information into address line 1 ( I have seen codes where they limited the character length in that box)

Using a non standard character ( not likely but possible)

Coding error on the site ( something I couldn't tell you about off-hand, I dont use SWTOR)

Error between the Keyboard and the Chair. ( always a possibility. Razz )

Another 2 possibilities:
1. Fields are mis-aligned. Prompt says Address Line 1, but it's beside some other field. I've had this problem where a site is designed for IE but I use FireFox (or some other browser). Especially when accessed on a phone where everything gets shifted to fit into the smaller screen.

2. The error is false. It may be that you need to fill in some other field, but the error gives the wrong message. It can easily happen with a lazy programmer and Copy & Paste.

I started to go to the site to see if I could find the form in question and look at it, and then I realized, "WTF am I DOING?!?" I spent all day yesterday and will probably spend all day today figuring out why the web pages I'm developing aren't looking and working the way I expect; why would I spend my leisure time doing the same thing. Extreme Delectation

I'll add one more to Jack_Ian's list: most programmers believe that fields arrive at the server in the same order that they appear in the browser, and 95% of the time, this is the case. It's no uncommon for (bad) web developers to have, for instance, just two fields named 'address' and he just takes them in order. However, there are situations in which they arrive backwards.

If you really wanted to figure it out, use Chrome, right-click the field, and choose 'Inspect element.' This gives you a live look at the HTML document object model, and you can poke around.

You guys are awesome. I knew you guys would have good ideas. Most of them I thought of on my own, but I didn't know how to check them.

That thing about Chrome is way cool, Zag. Of course, now I'm going around inspecting every website's elements just for fun. Wink

Anyway, it's fixed. They put out a new patch this morning, so I'm guessing they saw a break somewhere. My guess is the field was misaligned. I only wish I could have checked it yesterday.
