That's only if he plans to pass next time. As it stands, he can take this outright. Additionally, if he doesn't want this pot, by making you and Monk take less pass money, he has a better chance of being able to guarantee himself the next pot.

So... My critique of this game is that being later in the round is ~much~ better. First of all, your information stays secret longer. Second, you generally can get more points by holding out long enough to know if the pot is good or bad.
As many pots are destined to not be that good, it is usually going to be better to pass for 6 points. Especially because spending money is counted exactly the same as Cats.

In nearly every round, the bidding has gone around about 1 time. I don't expect to see many raises.

Right now if Scurra opted to bid so strongly that everyone would want to pass, UM, Zag, Me, and then Jedo would befit the most and in that order. If the pot was actually worth 6 more then his bid there would be a small net gain for Scurra.
So basically the only choice he has is based on his card and how he thinks other players will react to a bid.

True, but everyone has had exactly equal opportunity to be in that position. Well, except Jedo, who didn't have the chips to maneuver when he was in that position, so he didn't really get the opportunity.

When you are sending in your choice, you should be thinking about your position and others' position, when your card will be revealed, how you can manipulate the bidding, etc. While I agree that all of these sorts of games have an element of luck, this one is less so. The similar game that we played recently, where the card to be bid on came up randomly, that had a lot less strategy available, IMHO.

In this game, once I really understood it, I've been thinking a whole round ahead. In the round that I won, at least a couple people made a mistake by not playing a negative or big dog card, since you should have known that the tall stack (i.e. me) got to play last. Of course, if you had overdone it, then I would just have waited another round, but you might have intuited that I played my biggest card that round, so I was somewhat committed to taking it.

That would presumably be why I do a lot better in that game than I ever have playing this one. (I agree that there is more strategy in this one but it helps if players don't forget important details..!)

Anyway, I bid 9.

After Round 1, one person will always have fewer points compared to the other people. Jedo being a low number wasn't a fluke.

Actually I think I would like if you could only possibly bid once and the cards were revealed in a reverse order.

I realized it fully after the 2nd card came up. But if person 4 and 5 had done something bad I could have been completely screwed. It should have been a lemon but you would have been able to duck it if had been
Like in the round I planned on winning (the 2nd round) until it had 2/3 bad cards. Scurra got stuck with that lemon!

Well, Matt, I hope you put in something good. I can't bid again, and I'm pretty sure Scurra doesn't want another negative pot.

Scurra collects 4, revealing a 3.

And Jedo must pass for 6, revealing the last card....another -5.

1. Scurra (26) [Cats: -5]
2. Jedo (16) [Cats: 18]
*3. MattV (10) [Cats: 3]
4. Zag (18) [Cats: 47]
5. Undercover Monk (23) [Cats: 13]

Bank: 15

Send for round 7. Some of you tried to send things you've already used before, if anyone wants a reminder of what they have left, PM me.

Sigh, that is what happens when you get distracted because you try too hard. I am guessing it happened to all us because we all visit the same site...

And I got mad at Zag for doing well before the game was over. Felicitous

I have never forgotten about a logic game. But I also always made a rule to myself-- never post about it until the game was over. No matter how much you want to.

(ummm could you email my remaining cards? I am trying to avoid logging in for my own benefits and reasons pseudonym125[at]yahoo.com)

I thought I sent before I left, but I will submit ---Deleted--- in case I didn't. The players are on their honor not to cheat I guess, but it's the risk I take.
