I propose a thread, similar to the Mafia Roles discussion, just to test out theories with micro-Mafia play. For example, my first would be a 3-person game with one Mafia and two Vanilla Townies. It's automatically Lynch or Lose.

My second would be an extension of the first. 4-person setup, 1 Mafia, beginning on night. That way one of the three townies is killed at the outset and does not actually get to play, and the situation is still immediate Lynch or Lose.

I welcome your discussions on my most recent psychosis.

wont work LoL function at the end of games with an abundance of evidence to look back on. You need the context of days 1-3 to see how you react on day. I think we already have a thread on general theory.

It's not so much a closure to an ongoing game as an experiment to see how people react to a given situation. I'm still interested to see if the hammer would happen quickly, or take days (and possibly weeks) of discussion first.

For example, if one player in a four-player scenario was a veteran, and that player was not killed on night one, would the other players assume that the veteran was the Mafia? Call the whole thing an exercise in WIFOM, if you will.

I was trying to decide what my approach would be, if you managed to convince me to play. Since, as town, I always feel like I am just shooting in the dark until there is one known mafia whose posts (and the comments about him) we can analyze, and the first day is the worst of them. Typically, I end up grabbing onto some tiny thing and just hanging on and hoping. Of course, as mafia, I try to appear to do more or less the same thing.

In a game where there is essentially only the first day, it seems pretty pointless. I probably would just stick a vote out there just on past history. Say, if MNO were playing, I'd just vote for him and let the chips fall. Extreme Delectation Then, of course, that person would vote for me, and it would be up to the third person to choose which of us to back.

The odds don't look good for this approach:

If I am town, 50% I pick the wrong person and we lose immediately (when the scum just joins me). Of the 50% where I have correctly picked the scum, in only half of those does the other town player back the right horse. So it's only a 25% win rate for town with that approach.

If I am scum, then it doesn't matter which one I pick, I will win 50% of the time.

Since I would be town in 2/3 of the games, my win rate would be:

2/3 * 1/4 + 1/3 * 1/2 = 1/3.

Not too great. I guess, though, that it is to be expected; it's the same odds you'd get if you just randomly kill one person.

See I knew you liked the statistics of things. Razz

But I do agree. It would be all day 1 bs and I hate that part. I think a mini game would need at least 5 people. But I have no idea what the brake down for rolls would be. I want to say 2 mafia and only 1 power roll to the town.

Since we're talking about experimental mafia games, what about a game of Flux Mafia? Every night the town players powers change for another town power, and the mafias powers change for another mafia power. When someone is lynched/n.k.ed, the power they had is removed from the pool of available powers. I think that would be an ... interesting game. Felicitous

I'm sure somebody has thrown that out there before (because I can't possibly have thought of it first), but I've been thinking about a game like that for the past few months. Never with much real intention though. I think it would be really interesting if you could balance it properly.

That's actually similar to my theoretical Paranoia Mafia game, but in that game player's powers will change upon death (but they will come back a set number of times).

What I like about this idea is that it disrupts the patterns that experianced players have come to rely on and therfore giving them a new challenge. My concern would be that it makes the "puzzle" unsolveable except by chance because of the lack of patterns.

I think you guys should try it. Revenge most foul!
