There's no pleasant way to say this - several of Sam's family have posted on facebook that he died in December. He had a lot of friends here and I don't know who knows what, so here's this thread.
He was a good dude. |

Agreed. Sam, despite his attitude and occasional antagonizing was good company and a rather nice guy. He even tolerated my insistance on visiting for no reason at all. I rang in 2008 with him and his friends. sad news, sad times.

Damn, and to think I've lived just a couple hours from him for three years.
Always meant to look him up.

Sam's mom posted this message on facebook on 26th December:
"To all of Kevin's friends-
He died sometime this week of an esophageal hemorrhage."
Devastating. |

Wasn't Sammy an atheist? So either he's correct or he's in Heaven right now. Pretty good deal for him either way.

I only met Kevin the once, at jeepfest. My fondest memory is of screwing his nil at the spades table (by trumping my partner's aces high, thus making his mid-range spades good.)
Nonetheless I often enjoyed his posts, especially that one time when he told off the police officer. He will be missed. |

My heart whimpered when I heard the news. A lot of my views of life and religion (ironically) were inspired by things Sam said. I could always relate to him, and I never thought I'd see a day when I couldn't come here to read something he posted that would give me hope. _________________ The enemy's base is down. |

Something to note, at the point of his death, Samadhi was the top poster in GL history. A record that should at least be immortalised in some way.
THis really has shaken me. I talked to Sam a lot over AIM in the years gone by. |

I never really got to know sam except from his reputation but I enjoyed reding through some of the epic debates he participated in. Its odd how much an impact we can have on each other when many of us have never met.

Death is a celebration of life lived. Sam made a difference in life to many and for that we should celebrate. Yes, it's sad when friends become one with the earth but one should remember the life and times they had here and not sorrow on the loss.
I shall raise a glass or several to the life of Kevin and salute and remember his goodness in this world.

There's a program on my phone called Llama Profiles. It automatically changes things on my phone (like ringer volume, ring tone, backlight, etc etc) when certain conditions are met (arrive in a specific location, time is a certain time, certain words in my schedule, headphones plugged in or not.) It's a titch buggy.
There's another program on my phone called Mort Audio Book Player. It has almost zero bugs, but one bug in particular is that it "forgets" that I have headphones in when someone calls (that is, when I have headphones in and I'm listening to a book, it leaves the alert messages "very loud.") So, if someone calls, while I'm listening to a book, and, while I'm talking to them, somebody texts me, it deafens me.
About two weeks ago, I added a behavior in Llama that changes the text message tone to a single quiet beep whenever I'm on the phone (so it could no longer deafen me.) For some reason, when the condition is "left" it seems to auto-randomize the text tones (all tones, ringers, alarms, etc) to just any random file it finds on my phone.
(a bit more background, but I swear this is going somewhere.)
About six or so months ago, I was scouring around and found an mp3 file that Sam had uploaded which was him humming (that is, to use the proper term, "scatting") a tune to a song that he wanted help identifying. I had downloaded and played this from my phone (so it was in the "downloads" folder.)
I'm sure you've deduced by now, but Llama (about two weeks ago) randomly reassigned one of my alarm sounds to be Sam singing "do due do duu." I realized the significance of this today while driving, and thought it was worth sharing. _________________ The enemy's base is down. |
