It's hard enough to communicate clearly using complete sentences. So when writers are limited to 3 or 4 words [road signs, news headlines, etc.], humor is bound to raise its ugly head.
This thread is for the strangest, catchiest, most humorous, or otherwise notable road signs that you have seen first hand. Include specifics [location, occasion, etc] if you can recall them.
Not surprisingly, I have some favorites to start things off with.
[1] By the parking lot of a Visitor Center and rest stop in the Cascade mountains of Washington state are the following cluster of signs: a male and female silhouette, with an arrow pointing left and a "?" in a triangle, pointing right.
Restrooms and information centers make strange bedfellows
[2] Before a toll booth on the Ohio turnpike, a sign says "Slow Down, Get Ticket."
For me, it's always been the opposite
[3] In Bath, ME on a city street, a sign says "Bath Water District"
Clean people live here
[4] Along the coastal highway in Washington state a sign says "Beach Access No Water"
Don't they call that a desert? _________________

These aren't funny for quite the same reason, but I was still amused by them
My (now-ex) girlfriend called me up one day and told me that she had seen a Speed Limit 8 sign (at the bus station)
After that I told her about the opposing sign I had passed that day which said Speed Limit 55 (when flashing, in a school zone) |

In Paris, my sister and I came across this sign:
There was no road anywhere near the sign. A car would have had drive across a park, avoiding trees along the way, to get to the canal thing, at which point I would say the driver had already made his decision. |

| What I like is that that sign's not actually saying not to do that. It's either a suggestion or a warning to people near by to watch out for cars... |

Many years ago I encountered a sign that consisted of an exclamation mark inside a red triangle. It may have a universal European meaning, but at the time I was stumped. It was along a rural mountain road outside Vaduz.
I posted this elsewhere, but on the door of a local liquor store is a sign stating that "shirt and shoes must be worn to enter store." I always look down to see how worn mine are as I enter. |

it is a general warning sign. Usually there is another sign with words under it, which explains what the warning is about (e.g. farmer's cars on the road). _________________ My photography:

I'm not sure if this counts, since it was intentional, but I still like it. There's a restaurant near my school that has a little two-line billboard where they usually put up funny comments. I thought this one from a couple of weeks ago was pretty good:
4 hot bartenders and 1 ugly one
Don't come in on Thursday |

Only one I could think of that I've seen firsthand: there's an intersection of Church St. and State St. in Redlands, CA. It's a bit amusing to look at the street signs at that intersection.
In case you're wondering, yes, there are plenty of churches in that city. Guess they don't mind mixing church and state. |

| At a pest control company near our home, they have a reader board (changeable letters) out front. Each Christmastime, they say "Fleas Navidad". |

| I passed a sign on the Ohio toll road that the was installed upside down. Most travelers would have ingored it, but I'm the type of guy who's quick to snicker at other people's mistakes. Instead of showing "6.9" it showed "6'9" (miles from the Indiana border) |

In Lewiston, ME there's a street sign for Prospect Ave. It's a dead end.
When they were re-numbering the highway exits (still in Maine), there was a sign that said "Exit 10 (Formerly Exit 10)" |

Ira Road in Bath Township*, Ohio has a sign that's not funny, but interesting. Eventually you come to an intersection where, if heading north, your options are to go north or turn left to go west. If you go west, you're on Ira road, so the intersection's street signs read Ira and Ira.
*As a side note, I just found out Jeffrey Dahmer used to live there. |

Actually, I don't know how it works in America, but in Europe a red triangle is a warning to cars to watch out for road hazards. The location of the sign is still pretty funny though. |

What I find so unusual, is that some enterprising young vandal hasn't modified the "3" on one of the signs create an image more fitting to the town's name.

| There is a townland in Ireland called Inane, and they are currently widening the road there. My brother has a great photo of a sign entitled "Inane road widening scheme". I'll try to get it from him to post here. |

A couple off the top of my head:
Central New York: Catskill Animal Hospital
In Poughkeepsie, NY, there was a store called Big Lots. The "L" was burnt out for over two years when I lived there, which I'm sure made for some interesting customers.
On vacation at Virginia Beach, our tour bus passed a seafood restaurant that had apparently run out of "C"s as their sign said "Daily Special! Grab legs - $15" |

I bet they're not 5K an hour.
In SD, years ago, there was a yellow cautionary sign alongside a road near a hill. Somewhere I have pictures of it. It said in big, black letters:
"HILL
BLOCKS

I've posted this before somewhere on here many moons ago, but it fits in here too.
There is a pub along the quayside in Gravesend called "The Canal Tavern". It's not known by this name, and hasn't been for many years. This is because folk keep taking the "C" away from the sign on the wall of the pub.

Someone sent me this as an email attachment and I don't know how to upload it - actually i got directions once but they don't work for me. So I Googled it and found this version of the web. Apparently in Columbus OH. Good for a smile.

Took a trip to North Platte, Nebraska this weekend. We ran into a Christian radio station named KJLT:
There was another sign out front. Clearly, the signmaker was poking fun with his clever microphone placement. (Note: If you don't immediately get it, stare at it some more.)
