Sure, let's check it.

The Fried Chicken Mushroom seems to confirm it.
And I'm not going to try to plot over 6,000 points to see if they make something for the other one.

call in PARASOL for the mario world 1-1 meta

Given the puzzle, I assumed I was going to be of no further help. Figured I'd take a shot. I looked the full solution, and I was right...I was definitely not getting anywhere with that one.

I don't know enough sci-fi to ID anything you haven't already gotten.

I do wonder where the 17 obsession comes from (see the time stamps on the emails). It also occurs in the hunt's overall instructions:

Quote:

The exact point mechanism is as follows: If you currently have p points, solving an ordinary puzzle earns you 0.17p+17 points (that is, you will increase your point total by 17%, then get 17 more points). Solving a metapuzzle earns you points equivalent to solving 3 puzzles. Independently of your solving, Mario will get you points every 17 minutes. On the nth release, he will get you e0.14n points.

Anyone know? I don't think this was the 17th Hunt.

Black pipes:

14. 100 bani = LEU

Red pipes:

2. Driving Miss Daisy playwright = UHRY
9. Sinister Toy Barn proprietor = AL
15. Logician who said "Why should I be worried about dying? It's not going to happen in my lifetime!" = SMULLYAN
18. Cash's partner = CARTER or CREDIT or CARRY...

Is there a PIPE DREAM 1 that I should know about? edit: apparently yes.

It's a Mario mini-game.

Are there just supposed to be two pipes? i.e., if the black pipe is the one that doesn't warp, is it a single pipe that twists and turns through all the squares, or does it stop at, say, edges of the grid like normal crossword puzzles?

I can report that it is impossible to make a single loop of all the white squares. So I don't know what's going on, since it seems that both black and red pipes would have to bend if they're not the warp pipe.

I was looking at PHYS and UHRY and it looked like they matched pretty close.. The letters that are off are only 2 away, in the same direction in the alphabet (S->U P->R). No idea what that means.

RHUMB / MBTA could also be promising. (I typoed it MTBA above, which novice they copied in his post)

I've looked at the grid. I'm still not sure I'm following how it is supposed to work. What can possibly go in the square to the left of 1?

6. Ice cream brand - EDYS might be a good guess, it might work with PHYS

I was trying to use the basic constraints from the original Pipe Dream:
Quote:
Each square has a letter on it, a red pipe, and a black pipe. These pipes can either both go straight (one east-west, the other north-south) or they can curve (one east-south, the other north-west, for example). Each answer starts on a numbered square, and follows the pipe of the appropriate color until it ends in a boundary or a filled in square. Just as in an ordinary crossword each letter is contained in exactly two words.

Furthermore, as a bonus, each vowel is on a curved pipe, and each consonant is on a straight pipe.

Haven't tried to work with that bonus part yet. So far I'm just playing with the curved vs. straight pipes part.

LEU - 14. 100 bani
SLR 15. Photog's pride
MBTA - 16. How you might get to Central Sq.
