So hey I got pennies. In a jar. I'm gonna coinstar them today. I'll keep the results secret for a week, then reveal them.

You can guess at how many pennies are in thur.

Closest wins.

811... I am assuming it is a 1 pint jar based on the size of your hand.

The joke is on all of you because this is the correct answer. Most of the jar is actually full of quarters, and he only asked about the pennies. Cannibal

The funny thing is quarters are 91.7% copper while pennies are just 2.5% copper (after 1982).

In case you are curious: no there's no trickery, it's filled all the way around with pennies. ONE NOTE: we did find two small foreign coins in there that coinstar rejected. So if your guess is off by 2..sorry

Yeah, do you know it cost the government 1.8 cents to coin each one of those pennies?

Actually, it's 2.41¢

I'm guessing... 504.
Well, not so much guessing as averaging all the other guesses, but who cares to split hairs?

There's actually an article in the UK Metro paper today about this subject.

Canada are apparently killing off the 1¢ coin as they cost 1.6¢ to make. The US 1¢ coin costs 2.4¢.

...but it's a newspaper so it might not be true...

(Aha, found the ¢ character at last!)

New Zealand killed the 1¢ and 5¢ coins. It was a very good move. Even 10¢ seems pretty worthless these days.

I miss the Tuatara!

But the worst thing was, they changed our 10c to a horrible brown coin.

I found an old 10¢ piece on sidewalk. At first I thought it was Australian...

You could game the rounding system by paying in cash for amounts ending in 1-5 and with plastic when it is 6-9. You might save about $5 a year.
