The solution to the original puzzle, requiring a maximum jhourney of 100 miles (or the revised one, for that matter) needs revisiting. Using infinitely small journeys Lawrence can achieve a flow rate of 30 days-food miles/day, and has to cover 250 days-food miles at most, so can get out in well under nine days.

I suspect that energy consumtion would require that our intrepid traveler increase the number of round trips infinitely, causing the flow rate to decrease in direct proportion to the increase in food consumtion, even assuming that he eats on the road.
