To Whom this may Concern,
I have no pure intelligence, but I have a possible solution for the Secret Chamber puzzle.
You do not have to use your hands to turn the switches. Implying that you are in a non-desolate area, you can use a device to move the switches. Take four long and thin objects and place them inside each hole. You can switch all of the switches in the same direction by simply pushing in the objects. Taking them out may be more efficient if there is more than one person. However, it is possible by yourself. When you take the objects out, the switches will turn the opposite direction, placing them still in the same position. If the column in small enough, place two fingers on each object and slowely pull them out until there is about one inch remaining. Then take your arms and knock the two pairs out of the column. If the objects are not that flexible, then pull them out slowely at the beginning and then swift and fast towards the end.
This solution may not work, but it is one way to use the surrounding resources.
