FIRST: The only answer I could come up with is that the wife shook 8 peoples hands (each couple, except her husband). So that is 1 out of 9 answers!.SECOND: The other 8 are, the professor shook all couples hands except his wifes.THIRD: Basically everyone shook hands with their friends & collegues, BUT NOT WITH THEIR OWN SPOUSE!

Welcome to the Grey Labyrinth. Next time, please don't start your own thread of discussion when there's already one on the subject, and please read the threads that are already there. Your answer doesn't take into account that the professor received different answers from each person - if everyone shook eight hands, then the professor would have gotten the same one answer nine times.
