itc - in your answer suggestion there’s a problem. if b is the truth telling sage then his statement 2 must be true. which means that the lying sage 'a' must be two places higher. that means a and b must represent spots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 respectively. here's the answer i got. this is my first time posting so if the invisible doesn't work and you don't want my suggestion STOP READING HERE -

here goes:

i assumed that the mystic was c since 'when he makes three statements are different from the
other three sages'. which means he neither lies nor tells the truth consistently and he does not alternate evenly. therefore he must have two lies in a row or two truths. c makes three statements. since the third statement is true (D is not the mystic) then the first statement must be a lie. using these you can figure out the rest. my answer is:
A- Red - alternates
D - Blue - liar
C - Green - mystic
B - Black - truth

agreements/disagreements?

DLOve:
So, I see what you mean regarding C, however, didnt he only make two statements. I mean obvioulsy the second statement was a run on sentence, but does it count as a third? I know that sometimes you have to improvise, so I am not sure that you are wrong. BUT this is what I got.

Red = C = Mystic
Blue = A = Lies all the time
Green = D = alternates
Black = B = Tells truth all the time

Let me know what you guys think! I am pretty sure no one else posted this solution
