Hmm, this one's tough. I notice that if you takle the letter 'A' at the top left hand corner and then move to the 'N' in the bottom right hand corner and go back & forth around the grid, working towards the middle in a clockwise direction you get the following message:

A noise and a food shall you go? Turn the screw round and round. Four of a kind you know. Leaves of a drink and that of a rose you don't use yet. Again taking those is an order. No mistake. Go!

I've had to intuit the punctuation and put full stops and things in where I thought it made the most sense. I really don't know what this message means though, or how it relates to the numbers. Knowing Puzzle Prodigy, though, this one will probably have quite a few steps.

Hey, I just had a thought. <invizzed>

I kept thinking that the 'Four of a Kind' referred to the 4 seasons or to the 4 suits in a deck of cards or something like that but the title 'Four Ways' got me thinking it might refer to the four directions on a compass. Since it's clear the noise & food bit and the Leaves & Rose bit were both clues to something I've got:

Noise & Food - Shout & Stew - anagrams to South & West
Drink Leaves & Unused Rose Leaves - Teas & Thorn - anagrams to East & North.

The Leaves = Teas connection seems a little stretched so there could be room for improvement there.

I've no idea about how the numbers are supposed to be used.

If it helps I think the next logical step would be to use the four directions to pick out letters from the grid. I've tried using the center letter as a starting point and going 3 letters North, 4 letters east etc... and that's not given me anything useful. I've tried Splitting the numbers up into pairs and using them as co-ordinates (the byline of the puzzle is 'A co-ordinated effort') and that hasn't helped. I've tried adding the numbers up, jugglinbg them round & trying to relate them to the alphabet but that didn't work either. I'm officially stuck.

I got nothing.. here it is.
The grid is 12x12. Split into quadrants, we have 4 quadrants of 6x6.
code:
AOSADF OSALOG

DONFUO AIDOKT
AIKNTA OAOEOR
NDTGIT KNTOLT
OFYAOD ROODAE
WSSIAE OIENEC
.............
RVTSSG KTSUOE
SEOHMN ERNEAR
HWUGIA NAAERU
NNYSRF THDAND
UUYNKF RODURN
OUYLHD OANEIN

34342315434312355145455131543, 32254244242344251554241524424

None of the numbers exceed 5. So, it appears that they may somehow work out to coordinates on this grid. There are an odd number of digits in both sides though so it can not be a simple translation.

Using Gomez's clues, we are prompted to use the southwest quadrant first. Starting as a normal grid, putting the origin just down and to the right of the O in the SE corner, and using the grid coordinates (3,4), (4,3), (3,4) gives USUNNYSISUSYUNOMHW .. not a promising start. Since none of the digits exceed 5, let's put the origin on the O... HIHRYNVN nope.

Ok, let's count south and west of the grid origin USUSHAVYSUSA. Bah!... Ok, let's put the origin on the G in the top corner of the quadrant... NYNNURSUYNY

Perhaps if we build ordered pairs taking the first numbers from each set, then the second two etc..:

(3,3), (4,2), (3,2), (4,5), (2,4), (3,2), (1,4), (5,4), (4,2), (3,4), (4,2), (3,3), (1,4), (2,4), (3,2), (5,5), (5,1), (1,5), (4,5), (5,4), (4,2), (5,4), (5,1), (1,5), (3,2), (1,4), (5,4), (4,2), (3,4)

Invisible ruminations

Well, the noise & food bit and the leaves & rose bit obviously can't be used twice. We already know what the four of a kind is so I don't think we'd use that again. The 'taking those is an order' bit seems a simple instruction to use the four directions somehow. That could be used twice but I can't see how. The most likely candidate for reuse is the 'Turn the screw round & round'. First of all I thought that was just a hint that something had to be anagrammed but it is open to interpretation. I'm guessing we have to turn or twist something like we did first off when we uncovered the original message, but I couldn't tell you what we're supposed to turn.

What if the numbers are read once as co-ordinates and the a second time as a clue to desipher what has be extracted by the co-ordinates? As the clue dictates, one part has to be used twice.
Just a though....

Does it have anything to do with the number of N S E W in the riddle? I count 15 N, 11 E, 9 S and 2 W. These add up to 37 and there are 38 numbers to use in the puzzle?

Ok, we don't need a hint, as such. What we do need is a massive great shove in the right direction with the next logical step clearly signposted and surrounded by big flashing neon lights with speakers affixed to the base blaring out the message "LOOK AT ME!! I'M A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION!!"

Aight, i better get involved in this so that Gomez doesn't have to work alone anymore, im not sure how to do the invis posting stuff, we will see how it works....

code:

The hint of

D E F
C A G
B I H

tells you how to "turn the screw round and round" By starting
and "A", and moving SW to the B, then following it in a
clockwise pattern, the results, A B C D E F G H I are
displayed, now the problem is applying this to the puzzle...

The center of the puzzle is in the middle of

A E
S G

I have a theory from there, but i am currently stuck, here is
what i got so far, looks like it could be a step in the right
direction: After trying to start "screwing" round and round,
from each of these four letters, i noticed that if i start with
the "G" and go around the mess of letters using the same
pattern found in the hint we were given, that it covers 121
letters, which is a perfect square, 11x11 as the original
amount of numbers was a pefect square of 12x12, from here, i am
still stuck, but lookin for a way to go, of course, this whole
theory could simply be wrong and a waste of time lol here
is what i got as my 11x11 square:

G M S A E O K E N I G
H S I A O D R O I T R
A N A R S Y U O T S Y
T G I T K N T O E S N
A D H T F K N Y U N W
E V S F D <B>I</B> K N T A O
A O E O D N U E E A U
D O R F H L Y U O U N
U O A I D O K O L A E
O A R N R I E N A O D

Good Luck working from here...

hmmm, not bad for a first timer lol, the bold dint show up properly, and the first one wasnt invisble as you can see
the square should look like this:

G M S A E O K E N I G
H S I A O D R O I T R
A N A R S Y U O T S Y
T G I T K N T O E S N
A D H T F K N Y U N W
E V S F D I K N T A O
A O E O D N U E E A U
D O R F H L Y U O U N
U O A I D O K O L A E
O A R N R I E N A O D

with the I in bold because it is in the very center of the graph, and is probably important

No I didn't yet, bit I must say I'm stuck. When you gave the clue showing the order A through I, does that indicate we should look at the square as a 3x3 grid of 4x4 character blocks, rather than a 2x2 grid of 6x6 character blocks?

Twisted Purple - If you can't or won't do anything about solving the puzzle in this thread, SHUT UP. We critique each other in an effort to show issues with solutions or to help up figure out what a person may have done right and where the answer might be found on a different path.

If you want to personally attack TheOne, for no reason obvious to us, do it privately.

If you know the answer, as you claim, help us understand where we might be going wrong without telling us the answer.

This how the Grey Labyrinth works.
