Joe was trying to guess something. Steve gave him a hint. "It rhymes with _______."

Joe thought for a minute. "Oh! Is it ______?" It was indeed. But the word didn't rhyme with the word Steve said. But Steve wasn't lying. What is going on here?

Edited to fix the error. Do we have a blushing smiley icon? I would use it most frequently...

None of these answers are the one I am looking for. Sorry for the confusion...

Steve just said one word, as did Joe.

Steve gave him a hint. "It rhymes with _Rodgers_ ."
Joe thought for a minute. "Oh! Is it _Hammerstein_?"

Nope... This is a pretty lame puzzle so I'll just put it out of it's misery...

Steve said it rhymes with Lou (thinking 'you'). Joe thought for a moment and guessed 'me'. Of course he was right, but it didn't rhyme with 'Lou'.

"It rhymes with Grit." (Well, that's true! N.B. -- the internal quote marks in Steve's sentence were implied)

"Oh, is it John Wayne?"

Problem solved.
