The clue hints toward a specific answer. Like "RELIGIOUS NUT" might clue toward Zealot. If the answer is "ZEALOT", then any time any of those letters - Z, E, A, L, O, or T, appears in the clue, it is replaced by a number. The number is the position of that letter in the answer. Example: the letter T in "RELIGIOUS NUT" would now be a 6, because T is the sixth letter in "ZEALOT"
