Looks like the ol' roommate's not home. There's a note on the door, though:

code:
Dude -- I've got an extra ticket to the Blue Oyster Cult

show tonight! I would never have thought of offering it
to you, but at that party the other night you kept talking
about how 'into classic rock' you were. I'm sure a fan of
your calibur will have zero trouble figuring out the record
in my collection in which the ticket is hidden. Rock on,
dude, and remember -- these guys -- and gals -- are all
better the second time around.

Written on the back of the note paper:

code:
cash vixen cuban for you ebon canine blissfull feeling

indigo smog leap outlaw ignite me formerly northern colombia
western american inn conform to the following gait 100%
contrite tons o' passion reduced price crimes dynamite
rotary yo, you rock my world attend like that far away
goose chase

9/1 11/9 8/7 9/1 9/2 11/11 4/3 8/3 7/3 3/3

Huh.

He's got like ten trillion albums, so you're certainly not going to find the ticket by looking through them one by one. Which album is the ticket hidden in?

<edit>lead = leap in word list</edit>

Ah, a JToomey puzzle, which means it'll be worth doing. So let's see; I'll be nice and invis this:

cash vixen
cuban for you = "Have a Cigar," Pink Floyd
ebon canine = "Black Dog," Led Zeppelin
blissfull feeling = ("Euphoria," Def Leppard?)
indigo smog = "Purple Haze," Jimi Hendrix
lead outlaw = ("Desperado," Eagles?)
ignite me = "Light My Fire," Doors
formerly northern colombia = ("Panama," Van Halen?)
western american inn = "Hotel California," Eagles
conform to the following gait = "Walk This Way," Aerosmith
100% contrite
tons o' passion = "Whole Lotta Love," Led Zeppelin
reduced price crimes
dynamite rotary
yo, you rock my world
attend like that = "Come As You Are," Nirvana (too recent?)
far away goose chase

That's my contribution so far. I have no idea what any of it means.

Although I'll say, thoughtfully: "second time around"? I don't know of any remakes of "Hotel California," but certainly "Walk This Way" has a well-known remake, as does "Light My Fire," not that I'd say that Jose Feliciano's version was better....

Rotary - round and round, by Ratt, Aerosmith, or Pink Floyd? All three have a song called that...

<sigh> -- I proofed this and even ran it through a spell check, but I missed one thing:

lead in the word list should be leap. Bah, humbug, etc.

Thanks for the kind words, Tahnan... now you can reconsider them. In any case, I'm going to edit the puzzle post too.

That would be Jump - Van Halen

Oh, and why are we making these all invisible?

so, that would leave, i think, "rotary" and "far away goose chase" both by an artist not yet mentioned. also, the note mentioned gals, and as far as i know, none of the bands so far have any female members, eh?

and i dunno, Quailman. Tahnan started it.

Enough of the invisible already! Here's what appears to be the list:

cash = "Money" Pink Floyd
vixen = "Foxy Lady" Jimi Hendrix
cuban for you = "Have a Cigar," Pink Floyd
ebon canine = "Black Dog," Led Zeppelin
blissfull feeling = "Sweet Emotion" - Aerosmith
indigo smog = "Purple Haze," Jimi Hendrix
leap = "Jump," Van Halen
outlaw = "Desperado," Eagles
ignite me = "Light My Fire," Doors
formerly northern colombia = "Panama," Van Halen
western american inn = "Hotel California," Eagles
conform to the following gait = "Walk This Way," Aerosmith
100% contrite = "All Apologies" Nirvana
tons o' passion = "Whole Lotta Love," Led Zeppelin
reduced price crimes = Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (AC/DC)
dynamite = TNT (AC/DC)
rotary = "Roundabout," Yes
yo, you rock my world = "Hello, I Love You" The Doors
attend like that = "Come As You Are," Nirvana (too recent?)
far away goose chase= Long Distance Runaround by Yes

And here it is sorted to place paired artists together:

cash = "Money" Pink Floyd
cuban for you = "Have a Cigar," Pink Floyd
vixen = "Foxy Lady" Jimi Hendrix
indigo smog = "Purple Haze," Jimi Hendrix
ebon canine = "Black Dog," Led Zeppelin
tons o' passion = "Whole Lotta Love," Led Zeppelin
blissfull feeling = "Sweet Emotion" - Aerosmith
conform to the following gait = "Walk This Way," Aerosmith
leap = "Jump," Van Halen
formerly northern colombia = "Panama," Van Halen
outlaw = "Desperado," Eagles
western american inn = "Hotel California," Eagles
ignite me = "Light My Fire," Doors
yo, you rock my world = "Hello, I Love You" The Doors
100% contrite = "All Apologies" Nirvana
attend like that = "Come As You Are," Nirvana (too recent?)
reduced price crimes = Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (AC/DC)
dynamite = TNT (AC/DC)
rotary = "Roundabout," Yes
far away goose chase= Long Distance Runaround by Yes

Now what?

Quote:
9/1 11/9 8/7 9/1 9/2 11/11 4/3 8/3 7/3 3/3

My guess is that the first numbers are the length of the bandnames and the second numbers represent the needed letters in the names:

Pink Floyd 9/1
Jimi Hendrix 11/9
Van Halen 8/7
The Eagles 9/1
Aerosmith 9/2
Led Zeppelin 11/11
AC/DC 4/3
The Doors 8/3
Nirvana 7/3
Yes 3/3

So the tickets are inside the album of the pretenders

Good work! I forgot to look back at the original puzzle and read the numbers! I was too busy highlighting everyone's posts so I could read the invisible stuff.

Quailman, maybe you should edit your previous post and put "The" in front of Eagles and Doors. At first, I thought that we found two wrong bands.

I don't know. When I see "pretender," I suspect that it's not in a Pretenders album at all, but in something by Indie Rock Pete...*nudge*

More specifically, it's inside The Pretenders II, cause they're better the second time around.

Also: I don't know if you just matched up numbers to band names, but if you take the ordering of the bands as presented by the second appearance of a song by them, then you get rid of the ambiguity of band names of equal length. Better the second time, and all.

Thanks for playing, y'all -- Pete would be proud. Wait, no he wouldn't. You're talking about crappy music.
