I'm probably psyching myself out, but...
since IT *both*
gives us bracketed numbers 1-13 and
tells us to put the words in proper order, I question whether the proper order is 1-13...?
I'm overanalyzing, right? |

No, I don't think you are...there'd be little point to writing a puzzle where the solver (a) has to figure out X and (b) is more or less explicitly told X.
The right order might be "alphabetize by animal." I've no idea what the bracketed numbers might be if they're not an order, mind.
It's possible that we have to get one letter from each answer by putting them in the right order, and then the bracketed numbers give the order of those thirteen letters.
I'd also like to think that the separation into two separate groups might be meaningful. |

| It's based on a puzzle that I've seen in GAMES a few times. Each answer was formed by taking some proper subsequence of the letters of the password, keeping the letters in the same order. |

16. What song by Jeannie C. Piley hit number one?
17. Who sang the hxt “Quarter to Three?”
18. NASA fakes the Nars landing. What movie?
19. Lynyrd Skynyrd lyrics famously reference what tong?
20. Where did the Encyclopedia Fhundation settle?
21. What’s the name of the Cooan segment with hypothetical celebrity offspring?
22. What northern spur of the Oregon Trxil led to the goldmines of western Montana?
23. Out of what school (unofficial name, please) did Edgar Alles Poe fail?

Good heavens, without Google?
[I agree that Marina Sirtis typically sat to Picard's left.
8 may be "Grand Central"? Unless it's Penn Station.
27 is South Pacific.
28 may be mincemeat? 35 is a concordance, though I don't know if there's a particular one IT has in mind.
A number of these have had directions in them: South Carolina, Southwest Airlines, Southern Man, South Pacific. Since the puzzle is to "find the way home," this may be relevant.]
...and, oh yes, this is not my puzzle. Perhaps Foggy can explain the last one, since I deleted all of my notes on it. |

Sure...
As was easily discovered, each clue led to an answer that involved an animal. Following the instruction to put each answer in the proper order, you had to determine the correct taxonomic order for each of the animals. In order:
Insectivora (shrew), Carnivora (bear), Lagomorpha (hare), Falconiformes (eagle), Antiodactyla (pig)
Perissodactyla (horse), Urodella (newt), Columbiformes (pigeon), Squamata (snake), Diptera (flies), Rodentia (squirrel), Pelecaniformes (pelicans), Siphonoptera (flea)
The number in brackets (which deceptively range from 1 to 13) indicate which letter from each order to take. In order, these spell CAPED and CRUSADER. This clue refers to Batman, and bats are members of the order "chiroptera" which was the password.
NOTE: Originally, I was going to use only first letters of orders, and not have the 1-13 deception going on. But there are few orders beginning with E...the most common one is Edentata which is more commonly known as Xanthata, and quite frankly, there aren't enough good phrases using sloth, anteater, and armadillo (and "A.I. Articifical Intelligence" seemed like a cop out.) |

Aha! "Urodela" is, according to NI3, a synonym of "Caudata" (which I gather from the net is perhaps the more common term, though it's hard to say)--that's where I had a letter wrong.
(For the record, it was On Anon's reference to the puzzle having "class," in conjunction with the "proper order" instruction, that tipped me off.) |

For what it's worth, the string of letters (HGW...) has a frequency distribution that is roughly what we would expect for a simple substitution cryptogram (it's not a Caesar cipher). If it is one, it will be pretty tough to solve since there are only 38 letters.
My list of answer follows. Sarajevo is a guess for #24. I don't have anything for the "Crossing Brooklyn Ferry" clue, which seems pretty obscure. Overall, the answers include a lot of numbers and directions. I have no clue what to do next though.

Question for IT: On the concordance, to which translation are you referring? Strong's Concordance lists everything in the King James Version. Whitaker and Kohlenberger have one for the New Revised Standard Version. Kohlenberger and Swanson have one for the New Living Translation. Etc.
Also, below is a revised list (to get it on this page).
