| 'Tea consumed in here! (5)' is indeed &lit and a double def, but I primarily intended it to be taken as CHA (=tea) around (consumed) IN. In retrospect something like 'Tea cups in use here!' would have been smoother. |

| Incidentally, Novice, shouldn't that be more like '... amazes inhabitant, we hear?' |

Monitor I/O error amazes inhabitant, we hear. (8)
The answer is topical to GL, as I already alluded to.
One wordplay indicator is I/O error |

I wanted to include an apostrophe in mine, but I think that would have been frowned upon, no? Could be viewed as an &lit, I guess:

An apostrophe might have been a bit dodgy - I would have let it slide though.
The explanation to Early Division is Earl-y = Count-y, in case you were wondering. |

So just a double definition, interesting.
I actually got to it by thinking of it as Earl-y division, as in a division made/overseen by earls. _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |

The intended interpretation was Close friends = as thick as thieves, and people as thick as an apple thief would be falsely suspected in an apple thief lineup.
Maybe it only made sense in my mind. |

....whaaaaaaaa?
I'm not gonna touch the wordplay part, but as for the definition part, "close friends" and "as thick as thieves" are not interchangeable. One is a noun modified by an adjective, and one is an adjective phrase. "Like close friends" would be better. |

I think it's interesting how one clue often leads into another. I originally guessed APROPOS based on the fact that FAUX PAS was French, and APROPOS worked well with French and "fittingly". _________________ I hate people who try to write interesting things in their signature. |
