For some reason, I can't copy and paste. "Copy" and "Cut" on all their forms work, but "Paste" always remains grayed out and the keyboard shortcuts don't do anything. Also, I can't drag files from anywhere to anywhere. Is there some sort of "I am retarded please protect me from moving my precious files" mechanism in Win 2k? Ideas?

I have 2K at work and I have not the problems you describe. So it's not 2K.

I get that sort of problem at work, when I use XWin and at home when I use the applet for GLOC, and occasionally at other times. Shutting down the offending programs usually works.

Sounds like the Blaster worm, which can reek havoc on RPC. Or the RPC Dll's are corrupted.
Originally posted by slashdot: RPC isn't just for over-the-network calls; it's also what some Win32 apps use for interprocess communication. Thus, if RPC is borked, your whole system is in trouble (I had a system where the RPC DLLs were corrupted; I couldn't even use simple things like copy and paste, since programs couldn't communmicate with the clipboard buffer).

I've tracked the problem down to svchost crashing. Basically the system works fine, then svchost crashes and is restarted, most likely something crucial doesn't get turned on, resulting in a bunch of weird behaviour (also: can't open the add/remove programs menu; can't disconnect from the internet; Hebrew gets messy)
Trying to figure out what crashes the service host now.

Nope. It's definitely the blaster worm. Removing it as we speak. Contact me for removal instructions if your computer behaves similarily.

When is the blaster worm supposed to blast Microsoft? Those of us who don't have it might want to join in anyway.

umm, not tomorrow, on the 16th (Saturday). They will start to see the effects from it on the 15th because of the few countries that are ahead by a day, then bam!

It's only going to blast windowsupdate.com, and my guess is that they are used to getting lots and lots of request there to begin with.
