Si, es "puede hablar" y no "puede hable", pero en portugues la forma del verbo es igual: "pode falar"

Heuvos calientes, heuvos rancheros, and some of the other phrases are about all of my Spanish, although I find it quite easy to read Spanish and understand the basic concept. It's not true understanding. I mistake tenses and subjects.

Saludos. Buenas noches, maestro.

Me alegro en ver una clase de español. Quizas vendré algún día para escuchar ó enseñar un poco de la poesia española.

Vaya con Dios.

Umm, teacher, could you give me an incentive for joining the class? I had no contact with the Spanish language before, but if you could feature the lyrics for the spanish version of Ricky Martin's La Vida Loca i might attend to this class...

Since the GL University seems to be experiencing a resurgence (5 threads bumped in past week) I'll make it 6 bumps with this question:

Is "se habla español" correct or incorrect?

*rolls eyes*

I meant, if you want to say that you speak Spanish, is "se habla español" a proper way to say it?

No.

Use "Hablo español."

"Se habla español" means "one speaks Spanish" or "he/she/Ud. speaks Spanish to him/herself."

Pensaba ése, pero no estaba seguro, porque lo veo todos los tiempos. Gracias. That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure, because I see it all the time. Thanks.

In the context you're probably seeing it in, the "se" form is impersonal and means something like "Spanish is spoken" (with an implicit "...here", of course).

Basically, what CO2 said.

a translation of the "La Bamba" song:

Para bailar la bamba
in order to dance the bamba

Para bailar la bamba
in order to dance the bamba

se necesita una poca de gracia
a little grace is needed

una poca de gracia y otra cosita
A little bit grace and another little thing

arriba y arriba
it arrives and it arrives

y arriba y arriba
and it arrives and it arrives

por ti seré, por ti seré, por ti seré
for you I'll be, for you I'll be, for you'll I'll be

yo no soy marinero
I am not a sailor

yo no soy marinero
I am not a sailor

soy capitan
I am a captain

soy capitan, soy capitan
I am a captain, I am a captain

*repeat*

Another bump and another question:

When I say "Someone likes me" I thought it would be "A alguien le gusto yo", since "gustar" literally means "to be pleasing" and I'm saying I'm pleasing to someone, so I thought the first-person pronoun would be the subject. So why is it "A alguien le gusta a mí me"?

I don't now who's here would be able to anwswer that. We're all spanish-speaker-wanna-be around here. Not one native in sight.

You can just say: "Yo soy da hombre!" for that, however. It means the same thing.
