This is not really a major problem, more of an annoyance...
When I boot up my computer, it reports a "Keyboard/Interface Error" and then asks me to press F1. The keyboard is actually working fine, since I can press F1 and boot as normal, etc, and there are no problems with it in Windows.
I went to BIOS and turned off the requirement to press F1 so that the boot would be faster, but I can still see the error message flash briefly on screen at boot.
My keyboard is a USB keyboard from Dell, and I'm using an ASUS p4p800 motherboard. This error just started happening one day, and now it happens pretty much everytime I boot the computer (sometimes if I change which USB port the keyboard is plugged into, it goes away, but only for a little while). anyone have any ideas? |

Check the USB connector on your keyboard. Maybe something is f'ed up with it?
Or maybe it's just something wierd with the drivers? Check for patches, correct type, etc. |

There will be an option in the BIOS somewhere that allows you to turn the checking off. By default the computer will look for a keyboard on the ps2 port - if it can't find one, it will bring up that message. Most motherboards do this (except for the legacy free boards) and don't search for a keyboard on the usb. You might even find an option to enable usb keyboards in the advanced options in the bios.
EDIT: I had a look thru the motherboards manual and the only thing that came close was the ability to disable PS2 mouse, but not ps2 keyboards. It may have something to do with the settings for the usb - from what I gather the bios is meant to detect usb devices and enable them. Have you got another usb keyboard you can test the system with? As neo said, the keyboard may be faulty, so the bios might not be loading it properly.

Your computer is fine. Don't complain. Want to hear about a computer problem? The mouse stick on my laptop stopped working ages ago. The mousepad works half the time (if i'm lucky). Every time i try to hook up a mouse it causes constant crashing. Cap locks randomly turns on and off, and the cap locks LED no longer indicates when Cap locks is on, but rather it seems to now be indicating when I press any key just a bit too hard. My screen randomly displays certain colors as other colors which they are not supposed to be. Sometimes when i open the screen up it spends several minutes randomly flashing this scatter of colors. Every so often when i have it muted, it will randomly unmute itself and start making noises, without the icon changing. Then in order to remute it i need to unmute it then hit mute again. Don't complain about your computer being 1 second slower to start up.[/rant]

| And you need to sacrifice more floppy disks to the Digital Gods. |

(the first window opens maximized, subseqent windows do not)

I know my problem's minor Veg...but seriously, have you been sacrificing the floppy disks? You might want to move up to CD-R's though, I hear they have a better Digital-God-Appeasement Factor
Anyway, BIOS USB settings didn't help, and note that the message occasionally doesn't come up without changing anything. I'll try a different keyboard as soon as I can scrounge one up, I should have thought of that sooner... |
