Anyone know of a good, free, image program? Is that what they're even called? Let me put it this way: Does anyone know of something like a mutated MS Paint on steroids?

I downloaded Adobe Photoshop 7.0 from Kazaa Lite for free. It's decent.

Yeah, but....

I use a GIF animation program every now and then called Ulead, but it's really not much of an improvement over Paint unless you want to make little animations.

Ulead has a nice video editor though

I recently downloaded one called ImageForge that's pretty good. There's a freeware version and a slightly more powerful paid version, but so far I haven't needed anything more than that which the free version has supplied to me.

There's better 2d image software than Photoshop? Courk, I don't know of any half-decent free software. Guess it depends on one's definition of decent.

Let there be links
The Gimp Is an excellent image manipulation program for both Linux and Windows.
It's released under the GNU GPL.
Several companies try to make profit pimping out the gimp for windows, but in fact it is free, but hard to find.
Here is the download page:
http://www.gimp.org/~tml/gimp/win32/downloads.html
An excellent tutorial on how to use the gimp is called grokking the gimp

Or you could have a copy of it smuggled over the Canadian border sent to your home. Don't worry, it's legal...

Contrary to any rumours otherwise, Canada is *not* anarchistic. Stuff is cheap for yankee tourists, but not free. Hope this doesn't change vacation plans for anyone.
